Diamonds Classic: Noteworthy Upperclassmen

Here are some more noteworthy upperclassmen at the Diamonds Classic over the weekend. Abi Svenson | 1 of 1 Prep | G | 2022 9 points // 2 rebounds Svenson was knocking down shots around the arc with ease. She has a beautiful shot that she is always ready to show off. She cuts in and out of the opponents’ defense finding the open areas, and she crashes boards for her own rebounds. Gabriela Modeva | Victory Christian | SF | 2022 10 points // 6 rebounds // 1 assist Modeva (pictured above) moved all over the court scoring close to the basket and showing off a nice midrange jump shot. She showed her IQ when grabbing offensive rebounds and knowing how to put it right back through the hoop. She was great in a high-low offensive set moving from block to block or finding her open teammates underneath the basket as she stood at the free throw line. She slides into the gaps to put up her shot. She made sure to get inside while following shots adding some rebounds to her stat sheet. [player_tooltip player_id="219371" first="Mary" last="Wilson Reyner"] | Christ Church Episcopal | G | 2022 9 points // 4 rebounds // 1 assist // 1 steal Reyner filled every role that her team needed her to on each possession whether she was handling the ball or draining it from behind the arc. She followed shots going in after the rebounds making sure her opponents didn’t get a second chance. [player_tooltip player_id="221932" first="Tatum" last="Bowen"] | 1 of 1 Prep | G | 2023 9 points // 1 rebound // 6 assists // 1 steal Bowen was one of the main ball handlers for her team, and she seemed to constantly find her open teammates for their own shots. She can shoot well herself from behind the arc knocking down three of her own from deep. She reads her opponents well grabbing steals, too, to take it the other direction. Janiah Shular | Victory Christian | SF | 2023 6 points // 5 rebounds // 2 assists // 1 steal // 2 blocks Shular contributed in all stat categories fighting for rebounds, and she knew how to come out of nowhere following shots to grab the board. She did well blocking shots from the paint, and she didn’t shy away from grabbing the ball right out of her opponents’ hands for the steal. She does so well moving around with the ball and finding her open teammates for their points. She reads opponents while she’s playing defense knowing how to grab some steals. She can handle the ball from the top of the key driving to the basket, or she uses power dribbles to score her points.
