Not all situations are the same. Players forced to adapt to non-ideal conditions create some intriguing results. That said, these are four of the most efficient forwards in Wisconsin.
Kayl Petersen Kayl Petersen 6'1" | PF Waupun | 2024 State WI -6’1-’24-Waupun: Petersen has come back to reality, a little. The sophomore still has shown that she may be the most natural scorer in Wisconsin Petersen just isn’t shooting 70% anymore. However, the Warrior may be the most demoralizing player to guard in Wisconsin. When Petersen scores, she’s not putting people through a series of five dribble moves and blowing by them. Most of her scoring is done in, at most, three dribbles. With her 6’1 size and high release, defenders can be in her jersey and still not contest her shot. She’s currently shooting 60% from the field and making 47% of her 3-point attempts.
Nevaeh Thomas Nevaeh Thomas 6'0" | SF Kenosha Bradford | 2023 State WI -6’0-’23-Kenosha Bradford: Thomas has been incrementally improving since she began playing high school basketball. The forward has consistently put up numbers for Kenosha Bradford, but she has improved her efficiency every year. The same thing has happened this season. So far, Thomas’ field goal percentage is up 11 percentage points from last season’s 46% shooting. The largest improvement from her this season is her 3-point shooting percentage which is up 14 percentage points on a healthy amount of attempts per game. Thomas has been one of the most improved players early on.
Madilyn Dogs Madilyn Dogs 6'0" | CG Kewaskum | 2023 State WI -6’0-’23-Kewaskum: I’ve harped on over how good Dogs is defensively all year, but she’s had a great start on the offensive end this season. The junior has shown a lot of improvement this season, scoring the ball more efficiently. Her numbers have jumped significantly in both her field goal and free throw percentages. Dogs’ field goal percentage has jumped nine percentage points. The junior has improved her free throw percentage by 20 percentage points. Picking up her free throw shooting this year is crucial because she left 49 points at the line a season ago. Dogs is slowly creeping to another level of prospect.
Violet Morren Violet Morren 6'4" | C Hillsboro | 2023 State WI -6’4-’23-Hillsboro: The best thing about Morren is that she doesn’t have weaknesses when she gets two feet in the paint. Morren has a good touch, so even when she gets hit hard enough where the officials call a foul, she can calmly hit multiple free throws. When Morren’s in the paint, she can catch almost any pass. The junior also never gives guards the chance to swipe at the ball. Morren catches in and puts the ball over her head. Morren does all the basic things well, leading to good results like 61% shooting from the field.
