Angie Saiter, Haleigh Behnken and I were in the house and will be posting coverage over the next week or so. We all had our teams to cover, so I will be writing about the teams I was responsible for.
Today, a look at the top juniors in the games I covered Sunday morning and early afternoon. Coming later this week a look at the top underclassmen i saw, along with some kids who saw their stock rise regardless of class.
Dabbs Sunday Juniors (JTTT)
Krystin McWhorter Krystin McWhorter 6'2" | C Cincinnati Roger Bacon | 2023 OH , 6-2 2023, Roger Bacon
Was very impressed with her work ethic as she stepped up and performed well in her game Sunday morning. She is a long, physical post with strong moves in the paint. She has strong hands and excellent body control as she controls the paint. Also can step out and create mismatch problems for her opponents. Can alter or block shots around the rim. Shamirah McBride, 5-5 2023, Cincinnati Summit Country Day
Saw some good things from Shamirah in their game at the Journey to the Tourney, as she showed solid leadership on the court. She continues to polish her game, and has the knack to play through the physicality of the game. She possesses solid handles with both hands and is able to create her shot off the dribble. Good on-ball defender and has active hands.
Gabby Martin Gabby Martin 5'11" | SF Cincinnati Summit Country Day | 2023 State OH , 5-11 2023, Cincinnati Summit Country Day
She returns this year and the first thing I noticed about Gabby is her ability to establish good position in the paint. She can play a physical style if needed and has good hands to catch and score. She also can step out and show some range from the perimeter. She has a good basketball IQ and continues to get better.
Kyla Irby Kyla Irby 5'9" | SG Summit Country Day | 2023 State OH , 5-7 2023, Cincinnati Summit Country Day
Another experienced player who returns for CSD, and will provide good leadership this season. She is a solid three-point threat and if you take that way, she can penetrate and finish at the rim. Kyla foes a good job creating shots for herself, has good body control and establishes a solid presence on defense.
Sole Williams Sole Williams 5'7" | CG Cincinnati Princeton | 2023 State OH , 5-8 2023, Cincinnati Princeton
This kid is at a whole different level. Sole (pictured right) was ranked #3 in the August update of the PGH 2023 rankings with the next update coming this month. She is just so explosive and quick with an outstanding shot from the perimeter. She loves to play fast, and her transition game is one of the best in Ohio. Defensively she has incredible anticipation and sees the game a play ahead.
LaSonja Hill, 5-7 2023, Cincinnati Princeton
Defensively she is everywhere and will pick your pocket, steal and score. Her active hands on defense are incredible, and she can finish at the rim against anyone. She finishes well in transition, can push north-south with speed and is mobile. A definite gamechanger on the court.
