Luckily, the PGH NJ team has already talked about its team of the year, St. John Vianney, a fantastic team that managed to go a perfect 18-0 during the calendar year.
From the best team in the state, we take a look at the best player in the state and there were so many fantastic choices.
It was really had to pick just one, but our pick for the best player in New Jersey in 2021 was Manchester Township’s standout forward Destiny Adams.
Adams, now at North Carolina, finished out her high school career with the Hawks in the spring and had one of the most dominant seasons in recent memory in the Garden State.
Let’s take a look at the numbers first: 30.0 PPG, 18.7 RPG, 3.1 APG, 2.5 BPG and 2.1 SPG over a 15-game spring season shortened due to Covid.
On top of that, Adams posted career-highs in nearly every statistical category, became a member of Manchester Township’s 2000-point club, and she put up two 40+ point performances in her final two high school games.
In her final game, she recorded a 50-point, 21-rebound double-double with six blocks, a stat that it’s hard to believe anyone else in the state has put up game numbers like that in years.
Not only that, her 30.0 PPG/18.7 RPG season average is one of the best seasons any player has had in New Jersey in recent memory.
Adams had six 30-point, 20-rebound double-doubles on the season, four games of four blocks or more and seven games of three steals or more.
Her presence on the floor was formidable and she made opponents look clueless on the court trying to guard her.
That level of absolute dominance is what rightfully earned her place in Chapel Hill, where she’s averaged 4.4 PPG and 2.8 RPG so far in 11 games with the Tar Heels as a freshman.
Players of her caliber don’t come around often and within Manchester Township, there’s no questioning that she was the best player in program history.
Congrats once again to Adams on the accomplishment and continued and sustained success at North Carolina and hopefully beyond.
