The Eagles got out to a slow start in the spring, going 3-4 in its first seven games before turning things around in the back-half of the season to go 8-6 overall.
EHT completed three season sweeps of Pleasantville, Atlantic Tech and Cedar Creek, beating those teams both times they played them last season.
While the highs were high to end the season, it also came with a significant departing class of seniors that were incredibly important to this team. How they’re able to recover and rebound this winter is the real story.
Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey takes a closer look at Egg Harbor Township, a program looking to continue its winning ways from the end of its spring season.
The question to start the season was how will EHT find ways to fill in the production gaps left by players like Lauren Baxter, Yani Davis and Mikki Pomatto.
The Eagles have found an answer to that with a combination of junior standouts and budding freshman stars. Three juniors, Lindsay Dodd, Kara Wilson and Amelia Zinckgraf, are a three-headed monster that showed signs of sustained success last season.
Zinckgraf put up the best numbers of the three, and now as an upperclassman, she’ll need to quickly develop into a veteran leader. She has a lot of help in that department with her teammate and sister, Kierstyn, one of a few key senior contributors this season.
Kierstyn and Katrina Suarez are the lone two seniors for EHT this winter and both will provide leadership and stability in a lineup that is significantly different from the year previous.
The junior trio of Dodd, Wilson and Zinckgraf make their living in the paint and are great facilitators of the ball. While the Eagles have the interior figured out, the perimeter and guard situation has been up in the air.
It seems like things have been figured out with a number of key freshman contributors, mainly Lyla Brown and Averie Harding, who are fantastic at drawing contact and getting to the foul line.
The Eagles don’t rely on the three-pointer in order to win games. They win games in the battle of the boards and at the foul line. This current group of players fits that really well, but Brown and Amelia can shoot and will shoot from beyond the arc when they get open.
EHT is also incredibly unselfish with the ball, so expect a high number of assists per game that will be amongst the leaders in the Cape-Atlantic.
There’s plenty of fantastic competition within the division and the conference, but the Eagles need to play to their strengths and if they do, they can turn things around for a great season overall.
