But that is high school girls basketball in South Carolina. These talents bring it every game and they brought their A-games with them to the Queens of the Castle Showcase at Westwood High School in Blythewood.
Several in-state teams as well as out of state teams were on hand as were we at Prep Girls Hoops. Here is a look at even more from South Carolina schools who got our attention.
Joyce Edwards Joyce Edwards 6'3" | PF Camden | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Camden HS – Of course, any game she plays in will be observed very closely given her ever-expanding national profile. Edwards looked like Edwards in the Bulldogs’ contest with Florida-based Montverde Academy as she finished that game with a double-double (19 points and 11 rebounds). The 19 she tallied led Camden point-getters. She also had four blocks and four steals as well as three assists. Edwards once again proved many of her skills that have made her a household name in South Carolina high school basketball – the speed of someone who is 6-foot-3, can get up and down the court quickly, gets to the free throw line, grabs rebounds and makes plays on defense.
Zyasia Carter Zyasia Carter 5'5" | PG Camden | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Camden HS – What makes the Bulldogs a team that many throughout the Palmetto State will have circled on their calendars is not simply because they are good – but young and continuing to gain experience. Carter is efficient not only as a scorer but also as a ball distributor. Defensively, she gets a team steals. Offensively, there are plenty of places on the floor that she can shoot from and put the rock through the hoop. Carter played 29 minutes as one of the Bulldogs’ starters against Montverde Academy and tallied 10 points with three assists and two steals.
Victoria Morris Victoria Morris 5'9" | SF South Pointe | 2024 State SC – South Pointe HS – 2024 – Morris displayed glimpses that she could be a top-tier scorer last season. Following the graduation of Trinity Adams, Morris has become an even bigger focal point for the Stallions’ offense. Morris got the first field goal of the team’s game with Greenville and exuded confidence throughout her play. She did a great deal of work on the glass and had several occasions where the ball went from the opposing team’s possession to hers. Morris led all Stallions scorers in her team’s win against Greenville with 17 points in addition to 10 rebounds (a double-double) and five steals.
Andrea Collins Andrea Collins 5'8" | CG Irmo | 2024 SC – 2024 – Irmo HS – Collins is proving to be a bright mark on a Yellow Jackets team that saw two of its notable players depart for Gray Collegiate and has a first-year coach. She was a major boost to the Yellow Jackets’ offensive rebounding efforts in Irmo’s game on Sunday against Winston Salem Regional. Collins can get into a mode where she will attack the rim or sink her shots from midrange. Her eight points that she scored in said game led all Irmo scorers and she was also tied for the rebounding lead with six. Five of those six came on the offensive glass.
Morgan Champion Morgan Champion 5'6" | CG Camden | 2025 State SC – 2025 – Camden HS – When the Bulldogs matched up against Montverde Academy on the last day of the Queens of the Castle Showcase, 39 of the 54 points Camden scored came from either freshmen or sophomores. Champion was one the traveling Eagles from Florida did not want to foul as she went a perfect five out of five from the charity stripe. She had the most rebounds out of the three starting guards with four and also managed to display how effective she can be as a defender with three steals. Champion is proving to be part of a formidable young core at Camden.
