Several talented sophomores were on hand at the Katy Classic and here are some that I personally saw on opening day, quite a few I’m catching for the very first time so here you go
[player_tooltip player_id="206974" first="Taylor" last="Jones"]-SG (Oak Ridge)
Jones continues to show she can score multiple ways in multiple settings and the multiple threes I usually catch when I see her are always a treat, but her midrange and scoring off the dribble give her options. She also handles the ball and sees the floor well
[player_tooltip player_id="207488" first="Simran" last="Williams"]-SG (North Shore)
Williams is "long and athletic" and watching her play the passing lane and handle the ball in the open court afterward sets up the excitement as she’s finishing using body control and dropping the jumper but when you factor in she rebounds against taller opponents, that gives you an idea on how athletic she is
[player_tooltip player_id="270655" first="Melinda" last="Winston"]-SF (Hastings)
Winston’s ability to overpower opponents in the paint is among the best in Texas, any class yet she’s showing she can score from the outside and her rebounding, as well as defense, is solid as well but her desire to go after the ball is among the best, she just shows it over and over
[player_tooltip player_id="309646" first="Kennedi" last="Alexander"]-SG (Channelview)
Alexander is tall, long, and athletic so with that base as she stands a shade or two under the magic number, that adds to what she brings to the table which is her handling the ball under pressure and can drop the mid to long-range yet her scoring off the dribble is very nice, so is her rebounding and playing the passing lane
Brooklyn Alexander-PF (Channelview)
Alexander, yes they'rere sisters, well twins as well and Brooklyn is simply taking it to another level on the inside. She’s strong, also tall, long, and athletic yet her upside is very good even though she’s sowing next-level right now. She finishes strongly, after contact and has nice moves around the basket
[player_tooltip player_id="206967" first="Nyla" last="Wold"]-SF (Katy)
Wold is right at that "magic number" of 6’0 which college coaches love, especially when you can shoot the ball she can shoot the ball and her mid to long-range continues to add, well create problems for defenders yet I’m also enjoying her scoring off the dribble from the wing as well as finishing around the basket, rebounding looks good too
Ashlynn Alexander-PG (Katy)
Alexander was a pleasant surprise, she understands how to create her shot, under pressure and she can drop it with a nice jumper. She’s also heady, plays within herself, and doesn’t force the issue yet while being under control, she also has good court vision and makes solid passes
Isabella Mitchell-CG (Katy Taylor)
Mitchell gave me the trifecta I love seeing from guards and that is "she sees the floor" she can score off the dribble, which means she can handle the ball under pressure, and she can drop the outside shot, this includes the long ball. Even more impressive is her upside which coupled with her poise speaks volumes
[player_tooltip player_id="158868" first="Raniyah" last="Lewis"]-SG (Conroe)
Lewis was called a #D1Lock by me before her first middle school game, I’m that good, yet she’s better because a year after coming back from an injury, she has been on a tear and much of that is because of her mindset and knowing she’s hard to handle on the court. Her range is unlimited, the picture-perfect jumper can hypnotize yet her powerful finishes are equally impressive
