As we head into the new year, several teams in the 5A Class have gotten off to a great start as we head into the mid-way point of the regular season. These 10 teams have the best win-loss records in the 5A Class. Farmington 10-0 (District 2 Leader) The Farmington Scorpions are having an excellent season so far and currently have the best record in the 5A Class this season. They are undefeated at 10-0 and have had some quality wins vs some of the other top 5A teams this season. They defeated Organ Mountain 64-55 December 9th, defeated Las Cruces 64-46 December 11th and defeated Hobbs in a tournament 61-57 this past Wednesday December 29th. This team is led by [player_tooltip player_id="353690" first="Kiiyani" last="Anitielu"] who is one of the state’s leading scorers and top players. [player_tooltip player_id="353768" first="Audrey" last="Henderson"] is the team’s second leading scorer and is one of their more consistent players this season. [player_tooltip player_id="353913" first="Kamalani" last="Anitielu"] is also making a huge impact as the team’s third leading scorer this season. Volcano Vista 7-0 (District 1 Leader) The 5A 2021 defending state champions have picked up where they left off from last season. This season, in every win they have won by at least 20 points. They have two wins vs a really good La Cueva team and recently defeated Sandia who is 7-1 this season. They are led by [player_tooltip player_id="353694" first="Natalia" last="Chavez"] who is averaging 16.3 points per game which leads Volcano Vista in scoring. This roster is deep and has balanced scoring from top to bottom. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="357657" first="Taejhuan" last="Hill"] is averaging 13 points per game and 8.6 rebounds this season and has taken her game to another level this year. Guard [player_tooltip player_id="353770" first="Kennedy" last="Brown"] also brings toughness and grit to this team doing all of the little things that helps teams win games. Gadsden 11-1 (District 3 Leader) The Gadsden Panthers are 11-1 so far this season which is the most wins in the state right now and they currently own the third best overall record in terms of winning percentage.
