The excitement across the state is palpable and us here at Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey have been waiting for the start of this season for months.
The build up to this season has been nothing short of crazy and we’re nearly here to get the ball rolling and the fun started in the Garden State.
Along with our season previews for teams across the state, we’re also running down the best players at each position in as many conferences as we can.
From the Olympic Conference, PGH NJ travels to the Colonial Conference, one of South Jersey’s premier conferences, and in this article, we’ll be discussing the top forwards in the Colonial for the coming season.
Olivia Magee – Senior, West Deptford
Magee had a stellar junior season and returns for her senior season as West Deptford’s best player, their go-to playmaker on the floor.
She’ll have a big task on her hands to fill the void left by Zaniyah Carr, who graduated in the spring. While Magee will have more attention put on her on the floor, the Eagles will operate through her this season.
The senior is a fantastic two-way player who should average double-figures in scoring this season and will be competing for All-Conference honors.
Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 6'0" | SF Woodbury | 2023 State NJ – Junior, Woodbury
What more is there to say about one of the best juniors and overall players in the state than what’s already been said.
Davis averaged north of 28 points and 16 rebounds a game as a sophomore for Glassboro and was as electric a player as we’ve seen in New Jersey in quite a while.
She’s made a scenery change for her junior season, coming home to Woodbury. New team, new home, no problem. Davis is an early Player of the Year candidate in the Colonial with out a question this season.
Angelina Zagone Angelina Zagone 5'9" | SF Gateway | 2024 State NJ – Sophomore, Gateway
Zagone burst onto the scene last season and immediately became Gateway’s best player, nearly averaging a double-double already and one block a game.
She’s been a breath of fresh air for the Gators, who have a long-awaited player to build around, and Zagone is just that type of player to make headlines.
Zagone is aggressive on both ends of the floor and plays with a level of energy this program hasn’t seen in a while. Expect a double-double season from her and All-Conference honors.
Kylie Alkins – Junior, Audubon
Alkins is a darkhorse pick here as she didn’t get much playing time as a sophomore, appearing in just six games and averaging just under 3.0 PPG for the Green Wave.
However, the departures of three seniors from last year’s class has opened up the gates for Alkins to be a starter this season, play much more and become a superstar.
Audubon needs a few pieces to be able to compete in the Colonial and Alkins is an emerging talent that will help the Green Wave work their way up the conference standings.
Madison Clark – Junior, Haddon Heights
Haddon Heights has a three-headed monster for this season and Clark is the lone forward in that trio, and she’s a fantastic one at that.
The Garnets are one of the favorites to be the best in the Colonial and this junior forward has held down the fort well in the paint. Last season, Clark averaged 8.6 PPG and was a great defensive presence.
She’ll reprise that role this season after two-straight consistent seasons averaging near or over double-figure scoring totals. Now as a junior, this feels like her time to break out and join the elite forward group in South Jersey.
