New Year’s Day was the final day of the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational, where New Jersey was represented by St. John Vianney and Saddle River Day.
The Lady Lancers ended up winning the Invitational after a 67-55 win over St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) in the tournament final.
Saddle River Day also went a perfect 3-0 in their games, defeating Farragut (TN), 78-58, on Saturday.
Here’s a recap of the top performers from the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational from the Garden State.
Madison St. Rose Madison St. Rose 5'10" | PG St. John Vianney | 2022 State #65 Nation NJ – St. John Vianney
St. Rose averaged 27.0 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 3.3 APG and 3.3 SPG in three games, including a personal-best 32 points in a 72-59 win over Lake Highland (FL). This was the tournament for her to showcase her talent once again on a national level, and she did just that and then some. Incredibly impressive stuff from the senior guard.
Zoe Brooks Zoe Brooks 5'8" | CG St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ – St. John Vianney
Brooks had as good of a tournament for the Lady Lancers, averaging 24.0 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 3.0 APG and 4.7 SPG over the three-game tournament. Her best game was in the tournament opener, a 26-point performance in a close 62-56 win over DME Academy. Brooks is one of the best juniors in the state and this tournament proved once again that colleges across the country should have their eyes on her.
Paulina Paris Paulina Paris 5'9" | PG Saddle River Day | 2022 State NJ – Saddle River Day
Paris has been such an exciting player to watch in New Jersey and being down in Tampa Bay got so much more attention put on her, especially after a fantastic 34-point game against Farragut (TN). She averaged 25.7 PPG, 4.3 RPG and 5.0 APG over the three-game tournament and her game point totals increased after each game. Paris showed that unlike others, she gets better over time, which is scary for opponents once SRD returns to New Jersey.
Congrats once again to St. John Vianney and best of luck to both teams for the rest of the season.
