1. After a two-week absence, Fair Lawn looked well in its return to the floor
Fair Lawn was basketball-depraved for over two weeks before Monday’s game against West Milford, last playing on December 17. The Cutters didn’t look like they lost a beat, defeating the Highlanders, 47-37. Faith Erasmo had a game-high 18 points in the win and has led Fair Lawn in scoring so far this season. Also, Melanie Malkasyan scored 11 on the night and will be right there with Erasmo when it comes to production this year for the Cutters.
2. Mia Pauldo Mia Pauldo 5'7" | CG Morris Catholic | 2025 State NJ is one of the best freshman in New Jersey
The hype is real about the Pauldo sisters, especially Mia. After a 31-point game December 19, recorded her first high school double-double, a 20-point, 13-rebound performance in a 61-38 win over East Orange. She’s already established herself as arguably the best player for the Crusaders and without a doubt, Pauldo has put the rest of the freshman class on watch.
3. Hanover Park has their forward for the future in Samantha Cicerone
Hanover Park has been hovering around .500 so far in the early going, but Monday’s 52-36 win over Newton brought the emergence of Cicerone, a sophomore forward in her first season on varsity at Hanover Park. She posted a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double in the win after a few respectable performances to start the year. This was her first signature moment and it was a big one for her and the Hornets.
4. Riley Feichtl is finding her offensive stride for Sussex Tech
Throughout her first three years, Feichtl has been known more for her rebounding and defense, posting higher rebounding averages than scoring averages so far. That trend will probably continue in her senior year, but after a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double in a 43-25 loss against St. Elizabeth, she’s recorded double-digit point totals in four of five games so far. Feichtl is averaging a career-high 12.8 PPG so far for the Mustangs.
5. Woodbridge Academy wants the GMC Gold Division title this year
Woodbridge has come up just short of division titles in recent years in the Greater Middlesex Conference, but after a dominating 54-17 win over Piscataway Tech, the Hornets are 2-0 so far this season. Hena Thakkar had her second-straight 20-point game and Maya Fenyk had her second-straight 10+ rebound game. With more consistent performances like that this season, Woodbridge is a division title favorite.
