After a surprising 9-4 record in the spring, the Renegades have turned on the afterburners to start the 2021-22 season.
On Thursday, they faced their toughest test of the season in Olympic Conference rival Lenape, but once the second quarter began with both teams tied at 8-8, it was all Shawnee.
The Renegades had four players score in double figures and took quick command of the game with a 20-7 second quarter, leading by 13 at halftime. The lead was stretched to 15 after the third quarter and finished a 61-52 Shawnee victory.
Kessler led Shawnee (8-0) with 16 points in the win while Nia Scott Nia Scott 6'1" | PF Shawnee | 2023 State NJ had her fourth double-double of the season, 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Alexa Henry led all scorers with 21 points in a losing effort for Lenape (5-2), who has lost three straight against its divisional rival.
Looking at the rest of Thursday’s action, we had an upset in the Skyland Conference as Hillsborough (3-3) edged Gill St. Bernard’s, 45-42, behind a game-high 17 points from Amy Rachilla.
Brooke Baisley had a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double for Gill St. Bernard’s (3-2) in the loss, her first double-double of the season.
We’ve mentioned her more than a few times so far this season, but Hannah Hidalgo Hannah Hidalgo 5'7" | PG Paul VI | 2023 State NJ was at it again for Paul VI, putting up her second 40-point game of the season as the Eagles (7-0) blew out Winslow, 113-40.
Aiyonna Alexander Aiyonna Alexander SF Winslow | 2024 State NJ scored a season-high 17 points for Winslow (0-4) in the loss as they look to get in the win column.
Delaware Valley got in the win column for the first time this season with a 43-36 win over Manville.
Carol Anne Bredeson had a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double and Mia Jones hauled in a team-high 15 rebounds for Delaware Valley (1-5) while Kathryn Sanders had a 15-point, 15-rebound double-double in the loss for Manville (0-5).
It was a big day for Kylie Cabana Kylie Cabana 5'8" | SG Paramus Catholic | 2024 State NJ , who had a season-high 21 points and 10 rebounds for Paramus Catholic (4-2) who dominated DePaul (0-3), 59-22 in a Big North Conference clash.
Mount St. Dominic (5-2) overcame a six-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat Cedar Grove (2-3), 41-40.
Juliet Howell’s 22 points carried Mount St. Dominic in the win while Mia Nardiello had 13 points in a losing effort for Cedar Grove.
The last game we’ll be talking about is a miraculous fourth-quarter comeback from Linden, who won their season opener, 34-33 over Roselle (0-2).
Down 10 points to start the fourth, Linden (1-0) out-scored Roselle, 19-8 in the final quarter to take the one-point victory late.
