One team led by a dynamic Point Guard and the other by a dominating interior presence.
Karmin Riley Karmin Riley 5'7" | CG Owensboro Catholic | 2025 State KY – ’25 5’6″/CG – Owensboro Catholic
The Lady Aces like to pressure full-court and push the tempo and play 7 to 10 players per game. On any given day any player could step up to deliver the knockout blow. Riley is one of the two players most likely to make opponents pay for their turnovers or unwillingness to run the floor for defense. She is scoring 13.7 points a game while making 43,2% from three-point range, 47.9% of all field goals, and shooting 75% from the foul line.
Hailee Johnson Hailee Johnson 5'9" | CG Owensboro Catholic | 2024 State KY – ’24 5’8″/CG – Owensboro Catholic
Johnson is a 42.1% three-point shooter and 2nd leading scorer (12.6 points) in a high-energy attack for the Lady Aces. She also makes 77.1% of her free throws.
Earlier this season I have witnessed Owensboro Catholic defeat last seasons KHSAA Sweet 16 Runner-Up and the current 2A State Champs in two previous mid-season tournaments. Will this duo seize the All “A” trophy this weekend?
Madison Howell – ’23 5’9″/G? F? C? – Berea
According to the team roster, Howell is positionless, rather plays all three positions. That may be accurate but that also makes one of my tasks on Wednesday to assign her a position so that we can place her somewhere in our rankings. She has clearly earned the honor to be considered one of the tops players in the Commonwealth in at least one position.
On the season she is the main scoring threat for a highly efficient offense that is making 46.8% of its field goals, 39.7% of three-pointers, and 72.1% of free throws to average 57.9 points per game. Howell tallies 15.9 points, 4.2 rebounds per game while making 57.7% of all shots, 39.7% of from three, and 77.6% at the stripe.
Alexis Newman – ’22 5’8″/G F – Berea
Newman in nailing down 53.6% of her three-point shots and 73.9% at the free-throw line to contribute an average of 10.6 points per game. Her shooting could be key for the Lady Pirates on Wednesday night.
Trinity Rowe Trinity Rowe 5'7" | PG Pikeville | 2024 State KY – ’24 5’5″/PG – Pikeville
Rowe is already in the KHSAA record books for making 252 assists in 2021 and is the top-ranked player in the class of ’24. She is the 4th leading scorer in the All “A” at 16.9 points per game, making 69.6% of her free throws and shooting 54.6% from the floor and 44.8% from three-point range. Last season, as a Freshman, she led a very young team to the Girls Sweet Sixteen losing to eventual runner-up Marshall County.
I covered Rowe in-depth in my analysis of her in an article earlier this year about players at the Assumption Rockets Holiday Tournament. To save time here you can go back to read those articles about her and other players on this young and impressive Pikeville team.
Grace Mbugua – ’25 6’4″/C – Danville Christian
Mbugua’s 16.9 point average makes her the 3rd leading scorer in this tournament shooting 45,6% of her field goals. But even more impressive is that she leads the Commonwealth in rebound grabbing 221 this season for an average of 14.6 a game. This is another player currently unranked on our site that will not remain that way on our next update.
