As we approach the last week of the month of January, lets take a look at the players who continue to progress at the backcourt positions – the backcourt consists of both guard positions, point guard and shooting guard.
Backcourt Players
- Karleigh Gutierrez, Junior, La Cueva
Karleigh Gutierrez is a 5’5″ combo guard that does the little things for the La Cueva Bears. Whether it be an offensive rebound or a deflection on defense, the Junior always helps get extra possessions for the bears. Gutierrez can pass the ball well and can score from different areas on the court when given opportunities.
- Alyssa Rodarte, Sophomore, West Mesa
Alyssa Rodarte is a sophomore that can score from the perimeter and will attempt multiple 3’s if given room by the defender. Standing at 5’5″, the combo guard does a good job being a weakside rebounder as well as being a good team defender. The sophomore averages over 2 steals per game for the Mustangs.
- Ily Gonzales, Junior, St. Pius
Ily Gonzales is a 5’5″ combo guard for the Lady Sartans. Gonzales has shown that is she is not afraid to shoot the 3-ball but can also score from different spots within an offensive set. The Junior also has the ability to draw multiple fouls a game and is a proficient free-throw shooter.
- Izabella Trevino, Sophomore, Cibola
Sophomore Izabella Trevino of the Cibola Cougars is a shooting guard that will fire multiple attempts from behind the 3-point line if she feels that she is open. Trevino stands at 5’4″ and is a good rebounder for her size.
- Marisol Valdez, Junior, St.Pius
Marisol Valdez is a junior point guard for the Lady Sartans. Valdez is a solid backcourt player that handles the ball well. The Junior does a good job of running the offensive sets and taking care of offensive possessions’.
