POLL: Player of the Week Jan. 10-Jan. 15
In this article:
I’m something a little new tonight. I thought I would try to make a player of the week poll for you, the reader, to vote on. The idea I have for this is to have you all reach out to me about players’ performances on Twitter (@brady300021) to be highlighted on this list at the end of the week. This week I went through games and found five players named as nominees for player of the week, and I will discuss what these players were able to achieve and make their case to be voted for. If you all respond well to this, it can become recurring.
Allie Ziebell Allie Ziebell 5'11" | SG Neenah | 2024 State WI -6’0 G-’24-Neenah
On Friday night, Ziebell led her Neenah team to one of the most impressive wins anyone has had this season, a 92-76 win over Appleton East. In that game, Ziebell scored 37 points on 12 of 25 shooting, pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double, and flirted with a triple-double with eight assists. In my opinion, the most impressive part of the sophomore’s performance is she only committed one turnover in the game. Considering the opponent and the fact that they had lost to the Patriots earlier this season, this may have been the best game a player has had this season.
Teagan Mallegni Teagan Mallegni 6'1" | SF McFarland | 2024 State WI -5’11 F-’24 McFarland
Mallegni had a week for the history books. In two games, the McFarland sophomore averaged 56.5 points per game. In the Spartans game Tuesday against East Troy, Mallegni scored 62 points, good enough for No. 2 on the single-game all-time scoring list. Mallegni is currently the scoring leader in Wisconsin, averaging 29.8 points per game. The sophomore has dominated the Rock Valley Conference this season.
KK Arnold-5’10 G-’23-Germantown
The Connecticut women’s basketball commit is one of the most talented players in the country. This week Arnold averaged 29 points, five rebounds, and six assists. The ability that Arnold has to get easy baskets is remarkable. Arnold shot 70% from the floor in her two games this week. The Warhawk also led her team to two conference victories.
Chloe Vogel Chloe Vogel 5'8" | CG St Mary Catholic | 2023 State WI -5’8 G-’23-St. Mary Catholic
This season Vogel has quietly put together an excellent season. The junior has scored efficiently and has taken care of the ball. On Tuesday, Vogel recorded a double-double against Sheboygan Christian with 19 points and 11 rebounds. On Friday, Vogel played well in a much-needed conference win over, then undefeated in conference, Mishicot. Against Mishicot, Vogel scored 21 points, pulled down six rebounds, and earned five steals.
Tieryn Plasch Tieryn Plasch 5'7" | CG Northwestern | 2023 State WI -5’7 G-’23-Northwestern
Plasch is one of the best scoring guards in the state and one of the most feared shooters in the Northwest. Plasch made 11 of her 19 3-point attempts this week for a ridiculous 57% week from behind the line. In Northwestern’s loss to St. Croix Falls, Plasch scored 28 points in a valiant effort to keep her team in the game. Plasch is more than just a scoring guard. The junior also averaged nine rebounds, four and a half assists, and a steal and a half per game.
