POLL: Player of the Week Jan. 24-Jan. 29
In this article:
The end of games this week means a brand new PGH player of the week poll. These are your five candidates.
Teagan Mallegni Teagan Mallegni 6'1" | SF McFarland | 2024 State WI -6’0 G/F-’24-McFarland
After seeing the McFarland sophomore, I got a chance to experience how competitive she is in person. McFarland went 1-2 this week as they go through some time without one of their lead guards, so Mallegni has had more of the ball than usual. In those three games, the Spartan averaged over 28 points per game and was crucial in ending McFarland’s three-game losing streak. If you haven’t seen her play in person and you’re from the Madison area, I highly suggest watching her once.
Lindsay Steien Lindsay Steien 5'9" | CG Blair- Taylor | 2023 State WI -5’9 G-’23-Blair-Taylor
Mallegni, and fellow sophomore A. Ziebell, have been in a three-horse race for the scoring title this season with Blair-Taylor junior Lindsay Steien Lindsay Steien 5'9" | CG Blair- Taylor | 2023 State WI . She has scored 28 and 39 points in her team’s two games this week and is currently averaging 28.5 this season. Steien is part of the electric Division 5 duo with Abby Thompson Abby Thompson 5'6" | CG Blair- Taylor | 2023 WI . The state’s second-leading scorer has gotten better every year she’s played in high school, which makes what she could do her senior season terrifying.
Grace Schisel Grace Schisel 5'8" | SG New Holstein | 2023 State WI -5’7 G-’23-New Holstein
The story that Schisel has statistically looked a lot like Steien’s. Junior guard who has improved her all-around game, including her shooting. This week Schisel has made 13 of her 22 3-point attempts. That makes her close to a 60% shooter 3-point shooter this week. What she has achieved with the volume and accuracy she has shooting has been incredible. Schisel has climbed to No. 6 in scoring entering this next week.
Lily Truchon Lily Truchon 5'11" | PG South Shore | 2023 State WI -5’11 G/F-South Shore
If you like statistical anomalies, look no further than Lily Truchon Lily Truchon 5'11" | PG South Shore | 2023 State WI . The Cardinal attends a school with an enrollment of 50, and one of those kids has been one of the most dominant players Wisconsin has to offer. Truchon averaged 28 points and 6.5 rebounds this week, which is incredible. However, that’s what she does every week. Not only does the South Shore wing score and rebound she’s also one of the best creators I know of in this state.
Reagan Pahl Reagan Pahl 5'6" | CG Cedarburg | 2023 State WI -5’6 G-’23-Cedarburg
The Cedarburg guard had a slow start shooting this season, but in three games this week, she decided she didn’t feel like missing anymore. Pahl made 19 of her 33 attempts from the 3-point line, good enough for 57%. Her percentage on the season shot up over 40% after being in the low to mid 30 percent range all year. Pahl is that good of a shooter where one stretch of games could make Cedarburg one of the toughest outs in the postseason.
