Week Six of the 2021-22 New Jersey high school girls basketball season has come to an end, which means it’s time for us here at Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey to hand out some weekly awards for the best teams and players across the state.
We’re headed to Central Jersey for this article for the Week Six Team of the Week. You’ll be able to vote at the bottom of this article or on our Twitter (@PGHNewJersey), which you should follow for more social content this season. Here are this week’s finalists.
Manasquan – 3-0 in Week Six, 12-3 overall
Manasquan has been one of the strongest overall teams in the state this season and especially in the Shore Conference. Arguably their best win of the week was on Saturday at the South v Shore Showcase, where the Big Blue Warriors blew out Camden Catholic, 59-39. Manasquan also had its first meeting of the season against St. Rose, and the rivalry once again did not disappoint, as Manasquan won a close 45-42 game. They are currently 5-0 overall in divisional play.
Holmdel – 3-0 in Week Six, 9-4 overall
Holmdel was one of a number of teams to represent the Shore Conference at the South v Shore Showcase and they had a fantastic week, capped off by a 60-50 win over Haddon Heights. The Hornets handed the Garnets their first loss of the season and used a big third quarter run to take the game over for good. With fantastic performances from Alexandra Loucopoulos, Katherine Martini and Allison Cannon, Holmdel solidified itself as a competitor for the rest of the season.
Westfield – 3-1 in Week Six, 11-3 overall
Westfield had a fantastic week in Union County Conference play despite a close five-point loss to division-leading New Providence. The Blue Devils showed they can play with anyone in that game and came up just short, but against division rival Summit, Westfield bounced back in a big way. They put a 25-point beatdown on the Hilltoppers and finished up the week strong with a 23-point win over Bridgewater-Raritan. The Blue Devils won their three games this week by an average of nearly 30 points and are 3-1 in divisional play so far.
South River – 3-0 in Week Six, 7-4 overall
South River bounced back in a big way after a tough loss against Monroe, rattling off three-straight wins to get to three games above .500. The week was capped off with an eight-point win over divisional opponent Metuchen, who is currently one of the best programs in the Greater Middlesex Conference. South River is now making a name for itself in the GMC and is 6-1 in the Blue Division after last week’s games.
