Sweet 16 2023 Stockrisers (Part 1)
The junior class has a wealth of talent and there are multiple players that have either improved a lot or came into our radar. Here are eight of sixteen players that have risen their stocks since the start of the season.
Cassidy Mahaney Cassidy Mahaney 5'8" | SG Urbana | 2023 State MD – 5’6″ – Point Guard – Holy Cross
Cassidy has a great outside shot and moves well without the ball so that she has no problem getting her shot off. She has good vision and is unselfish with the ball. She attacks the basket fearlessly against taller players getting enough separation to finishes.
Sahnya Jah Sahnya Jah 6'1" | SF Bishop McNamara | 2023 #50 Nation FL – 6’1″ – Wing – Bishop McNamara
Sahnya was already a top ten player but has improved in most every aspect of her game. She has a nice skillset combined with her length puts her in the upper echelon of players in the country. If she gets more consistency on her shot she can lock in her all-American pick.
Madison Byrd – 6’5″ – Center – Friendship Collegiate Academy
At 6’5″ Madison is a shoe in for college. She is strong inside and can finish by the basket. She will enter into the rankings for the first time. Stretching her range a bit and improving her footwork will only improve her recruiting and rankings stock.
Brooke Scott – 5’2″ – Point Guard – Takoma Academy
A solid point guard that may fly under the radar by being in a small program and on the small side physically. Rest assured as far as talent and skill she can compete with any point guard in the region. Falling in the right program in the spring will determine her recruiting.
Riley Nelson Riley Nelson 6'1" | SF Clarksburg | 2023 State MD – 6’1″ – Wing – Clarksburg
Not seeing Riley since middle school, I was surprised to see that she has grown around seven inches and kept her guard skill. The Maryland commit will certainly rise in the top ten after the next shake up in the rankings.
Maryan Eniafe – 6’1″ -Forward – Maret
Maryan has a strong solid frame making her look bigger than her listed 6’1″ height. She is physical down low and when she is on she is pretty unstoppable in the paint with her over the shoulder shot.
Laila Reynolds Laila Reynolds 5'11" | CG Shabach Christian Academy | 2023 State MD – 6’1″ – Forward – New Hope Academy
Laila is super athletic with the ability to play above the rim. She has good court vision and attacks the basket well. She has good timong on shot blocks and is on track to be the go to player entering her senior season for the Eagles.
Jayla Towles – 5’7″ – Wing – St. Vincent Pallotti
Jayla is a very accurate three point shooter and one off the best shooter in the area. She isn’t the quickest player, however, she has a knack to find ways to always get open for a shot.
