Continue ReadingI speak about stats and numbers as I still get overwhelmed by them yet in the era of deepfake videos, 30-second clips, or pop-up camps ranking players nationally, one more time, “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” will always take precedent when I evaluate unless I have actually seen the player so Friday I had a chance to play ketchup, no fries needed, but in playing catch-up I did catch a few new faces which I have already mentioned from Week 10 so here are some standout guards
Kennedy Evans Kennedy Evans 5'11" | SG Legion Prep Academy | 2024 State TX
2022
Jordan Wright-5’7 CG (Frisco)
Wright showed nothing wrong during my Friday night wrap-a-round coverage via LIVESTREAM and the first thing that just grabbed me was athletic she was, yet under control and her explosiveness with the ball, that first step was definitely hard to deal with and it enabled her to get by defenders with ease and finish after the lick. She handled the ball well in the open court and saw the floor
Jordan Aguirre-5’5 SG (Monterey)
Aguirre filled in a lot of gaps and gives her squad another scoring option other than Aaliyah Chavez Aaliyah Chavez 5'9" | PG Monterey | 2025 State TX and Kelly Mora yet what I liked as I glimpsed at the game was her playing within herself and not forcing shots in this era of “I gotta get mine” so her scoring in the flow, creating her shot under pressure and dropping the long ball were all nice
Ali Martinez-5’7 SG (Lubbock)
Martinez had me wondering if I had been to Happy Hour after seeing her listed height yet she definitely made me happy watching what she did during my hour of wrap-a-round. She battles for the ball off the rim, let me drop #THROWBACK because at her size, that brought back yesteryear seeing her do it against much taller players yet peep this, she also scored on the interior against taller players
Jazzmyne Jackson-5’7 PG (Braswell)
Jackson is definitely one of 5 who is creating hits for this squad, play on words again, yet I should say any 5 because the mix is nice, and speaking of mixes, she dazzles defenders with the ball before attacking the basket, this is good because she can score or dish off the dribble but she also was dropping the outside shot, yes she can shoot the mid to long
2023
Amarachi Kimpson Amarachi Kimpson 5'7" | PG Little Elm | 2023 State TX -5’7 CG (Little Elm)
Kimpson went over 1500 points during the week, couldn’t get that via LIVESTREAM because I hadn’t paid for it but she has been making defenders pay since I called her what, a #D1Lock in the 6th grade. Her playing the passing lane and hitting midcourt shots for wins are forever embedded in my head, also on my INSTAGRAM, well one of them and watching her zip the ballot teammates with a flick of the wrist just brought back so many memories so did her pull-up jumper
2024
Ashna Tambe Ashna Tambe 5'7" | CG Hockaday | 2024 State TX -5’8 PG (Hockaday)
Tambe falls into that “receiving intel on other players and she’s the girl” category so it didn’t take me long to realize what I was looking at so let me drop her stat line, 17/18 from the line scoring 42 points with only one 3 pointer, figure it out, that may be on ACT/SAT yet problem solving is no problem for this talented young lady who is also academically solid which translates on the court as she understands the game and controls the tempo art the 1
Paris Baker-5’4 PG (Lebanon Trail)
Baker definitely had defenders in the oven because she has a nice first step and attacks the basket hard, from various angles. Pretty good court vision and ball-handling under pressure, nice upside
Danae Crosby-5’6 SG (Braswell)
Crosby continues to find ways to impress me, yeah I love seeing here on the offensive end either attacking or showing the jumper but her smothering defense is just sticking me in the side like a needle
Kennedy Evans Kennedy Evans 5'11" | SG Legion Prep Academy | 2024 State TX -5’10 SG (Braswell)
Evans has NBA range, wait didn’t I say that when I locked her in the 6th grade, S/O to her MAMMA MIA for sending me a roster, I did it again, years ago to get a jump on her baby as well as countless others yet count this is what you need to be thinking as she, Kennedy. just elevates over defenders to drop it from mid to long-range but she also scores off the dribble, plays the passing lane, and is hitting the boards as well as defending
