This is the toughest region in the state, it has the toughest district, District 11, in the state, Desoto, Duncanville, and Cedar Hil so the 8 area teams playing in R-2 are going against not only those teams but however those 8 have advanced to the Sweet 16. Cy Ranch vs Grand Oaks who have two of the top freshmen in the state, [player_tooltip player_id="385703" first="Bree" last="Riley"] and [player_tooltip player_id="385704" first="Margan" last="Allen"], Tomball Memorial vs Oak Ridge, Westfield vs Klein Collins, and Conroe vs Cy Springs featuring another one of the top freshmen in Texas, [player_tooltip player_id="388141" first="Ayla" last="McDowell"] but let me backtrack to Region 3 where most of the area plays and the Top Performers from Cy Fair’s stunning victory over Lamar to advance read more
2022
Carryn Guidry-5’6 CG (Lamar)
Guidry not only created her shot well, but she also knocked down the long ball, and her ability to score off the dribble and finish after contact was nice
Celeste Torres-5’4 PG (Cy Fair)
Torres showed a very nice first step, this enabled her to take the defender off the dribble to either score or dish yet her court vision and her "on the money" passes were also nice
Jayden Haynes-5’7 CG (Cy Fair)
Haynes also did a good job scoring off the dribble yet her steal down the stretch secured the victory, see what happens when you play the passing lane
2023
[player_tooltip player_id="134050" first="Kahlayn" last="Barnes"]-5’7 SG (Lamar)
Barnes was added to the WATCHLIST the first time I saw her, it doesn’t take me long to KNOW yet I knew her going off would be probable, and dropping 3 from BTA to help her team take the lead late in the game spoke volumes yet the volume continued to get louder as she led all scorers
Anna Farrell-5’10 PF Cy Fair
Farrell was more than serviceable on the inside and her rebounding on both ends as well as scoring showing nice moves around the basket was huge
Laney Lyle-5’6 CG Cy Fair
Lyle knocked down some jumpers, no surprise, she’s been doing it for quite some time yet she helped change the momentum with some of her buckets
TAPPS 6A
Since LIVESTREAM is a hit or miss, some of the games I wanted to see weren’t available due to technical difficulties so I checked in on a District 4 match-up in a private school matchup that The Village won 44-37
2022
Ella Smith-5’7 SG (St Agnes)
Smith was simply unconscious as she knocked down big shot after big shot to keep her team within striking distance and her long ball heroics had me thinking they might pull off the upset
Madeline Webster-5’9 PF (St Agnes)
Webster did a good job inside the paint, powerful finishes as well as strong rebounding on both ends but she also did a good job with her interior defense
[player_tooltip player_id="135359" first="Sydney" last="Ward"]-6’0 CG (The Village)
Ward never ceases to amaze me and I’ve watched her play all positions at some point during her career and showing she could handle the ball, see the floor and control the tempo from the 1 had me smiling
2023
[player_tooltip player_id="331959" first="Elizabeth" last="Walton"]-5’7 SG (The Village)
Walton has a deceptive first step and that, coupled with her body control make her "an and one waiting to happen" yet she also dropped some jumpers
[player_tooltip player_id="204180" first="Tobi" last="Ademuwagun"]-6’0 SF (The Village)
Ademuwagun mixed it up nicely as she scored from outside, off the dribble, and on putbacks but her handling the ball to score after rebounding on the defensive end always gets me going, she rebounds on both ends by the way
