We’re here to talk about the first two games that have been played for teams in Pool 1, four action-packed games. The four teams in Pool 1 are Immaculate Heart, Demarest, Ridgewood and Pascack Valley. Here’s a recap though Monday’s action.
Jan. 27: IHA 43, Demarest 22
In a battle of two high-profile programs, Immaculate Heart got off to a quick 18-7 start after the first quarter and never looked back, out-scoring Demarest 38-16 through three. It was the Julia Shultz show for Immaculate Heart (13-3) as she scored a game-high 15 points, including four assists and a made three-pointer. Gina Gaccione had her 10th game scoring in double-figures on the season, scoring 10 points along with three rebounds and six assists. Her two assists led the Blue Eagles and Ava Naszimento Ava Naszimento 6'1" | C Immaculate Heart | 2023 State NJ led the team on the rebounding end with 11 rebounds along with eight points. Cristina Parrella Cristina Parrella 5'10" | SG Saddle River Day | 2024 State NJ had eight points and Liz Argenizano has seven points in the loss for Demarest (9-7).
Jan. 27: Ridgewood 37, Pascack Valley 31
Despite a massive fourth-quarter comeback for Pascack Valley, the 32-18 deficit going into the fourth quarter proved to be too much as Ridgewood (8-4) won by six. They out-scored PV 26-14 in the second and third quarters of the game. Isabella Winn led Ridgewood with 11 points along with six rebounds. She was one of three players on the team to have five or more rebounds, along with Paisley Tornatore and Courtney McKenna, the leading rebounder on the night with seven. Four scorers had five or more points for Pascack Valley (6-6), including a team-high eight points for Celina Bussanich.
Jan. 30: IHA 42, Pascack Valley 32
Immaculate Heart improved to 2-0 in pool play with a tough win in a close game against a Pascack Valley team not looking to go under .500 for the season. Gina Gaccione took over for the Blue Eagles in this game with 16 points, three rebounds, five assists and a block along with knocking down two threes. She was incredibly impressive and came up clutch when IHA (14-3) needed it most. Ava Naszimento Ava Naszimento 6'1" | C Immaculate Heart | 2023 State NJ had a great game as well with 10 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block. Celina Bussanich kept things interesting for PV (6-7), scoring a team-high 11 points while knocking down 3 three-pointers. However, it just wasn’t enough in the end.
Jan. 31: Demarest 42, Ridgewood 35
Demarest dominated in the first half, taking a 25-9 lead into halftime and held off a second-half surge from Ridgewood to take a seven-point victory. Cristina Parrella was the story of the night for Demarest (10-7), scoring 23 points, her ninth 20+ point game of the season, and hauling in five rebounds. Liz Argenziano recorded her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds, absolutely dominant on the defensive end. She’s really improved her defensive game in recent weeks and it’s shown. Christina Argenziano, despite not scoring a point, led Demarest with 11 rebounds in the win. Clare Kearney had herself a game for Ridgewood (9-5) with a team-high 12 points as four scorers had six or more points in the loss.
Through the first two games in pool play, here are the standings:

Demarest – 1-1
