Liz Argenziano (Sr.) – G/F, Demarest
Argenziano has stepped up her game tremendously in her senior season at Demarest and is not just an offensive threat, but an emerging defensive superstar. She’s continued her excellent shooting from last season into this season. While Argenziano is still a great three-point shooter, she’s added more of an interior game this season. Along with that, we’ve seen a significant uptick in rebounds from her, a great sign of more aggression and intensity in the lane. Her defense as a whole is at its best right now, helping to complete her overall game that much more.
Celina Bussanich (Fr.) – 5-5 SG/PG, Pascack Valley
The freshman guard has been a revelation for Pascack Valley so far this season and is a red hot shooter in the Big North Conference. Her three-point shooting is fantastic and she’s gained a great deal of confidence in recent weeks as she’s knocking down more shots. Bussanich is very much a combo guard, able to run the point but also spread the floor to create shot opportunities. That’s been one of the more impressive parts of her game is that ability to spread the floor so effortlessly.
Courtney McKenna (Sr.) – F, Ridgewood
McKenna is the force in the middle for Ridgewood and has reprised that role the past three seasons, including this year. She’s arguably having as good of a season as last year, if not more complete. It’s come with the territory of being a senior leader for Ridgewood. She looks more poised in the middle and can very easily find her spots on the court to score. Her defense has come a long way the past two seasons, helping build her confidence more when a defender is coming into the lane.
Selena Cieszko (So.) – PG, Immaculate Heart
Cieszko has found her footing on the offensive end for Immaculate Heart and is establishing herself as the next best point guard for this program. We’re seeing it in her shooting, especially from the perimeter. She’s not afraid to shoot the three and she steps into her shots well and has a smooth, effortless release. Cieszko plays opponents close on defense and her court awareness allows her to force them onto their non-dominant side or closes the gap to get a steal. Her rebounding and passing have also improved with more playing time. All is falling into place for the sophomore guard.
Taylor Miller (So.) – 6-1 PF/C, Demarest
Miller has the blessing of size and height on her opponents and she’s quickly finding ways to utilize that and dominate on the floor. That height is a massive advantage on offense to receive passes and create space for more scoring chances. It’s helpful as a defender to close off the middle, take up more space to look bigger, and swat shots away. The mismatches she encounters on both sides of the ball are really giving her more confidence to take over a game. Her growth is slow and steady, but we’ve already seen just what her ceiling is.
Shea Gorman (Sr.) – F, Ridgewood
Gorman’s playing time has steadily increased the past three seasons for Ridgewood and her production on the court has greatly improved as a result. Her potential is a double-double caliber player who can dominate the middle and take away shooting lanes for opponents on defense. We’ve seen glimpses of that on a few occasions for Ridgewood so far, but it shows just how good Gorman has become. The numbers will come, but the more the ball gets fed down to her, the more she’s going to feast on defensive mismatches this season.
