That continued with the second day of the Coaches Choice USA College Showcase at Holmdel High School. Five games, 10 teams and some of the best action we’ve seen so far this season. Here are some standouts from Day 2 of the CCUCS.
Mya Pauldo Mya Pauldo 5'7" | CG Morris Catholic | 2025 State NJ (Fr.) – 5-7 CG, Morris Catholic
Pauldo is having herself quite the freshman season so far for Morris Catholic and her and her sister, Mia, are already one of the best duos in the state. She can beat you in a number of ways, whether that be beyond the arc, a midrange jumper, driving into paint for a tough two or finding an open teammate for a shot. Her court awareness is already fantastic and she looks not only confident on the floor, but very mature for a freshman guard. You can tell that by her body language, and she’s found a way to exploit and capitalize on defenses while dominating nearly every facet of the game.
Allison Cannon (So.) – 5-9 G/F, Holmdel
Cannon has been in a starting role since the beginning of the season and is capitalizing greatly on the added playing time. We’ve seen that in a big way so far as she’s become a reliable guard with consistent scoring and great passing. While this jump in production might seem surprising, Cannon has put in the work and shown a great amount of effort on the floor. That’s reflected in her dribble penetration into the lane, her poised nature on the defensive end and her stellar rebounding ability. The pieces have quickly come together for her this season and Holmdel has benefitted greatly as a result.
Kayla Perez (Sr.) – 5-8 CG, St. Thomas Aquinas
This senior guard has shown out for St. Thomas Aquinas so far and is proving to be quite the balanced player overall. Her game is played much more often inside the perimeter but she’s one who can still shoot it from the perimeter when she gets an open look. Her rebounding and assist stats are virtually identical, which shows that level of balance in her game. She’s not overly reliant on just scoring as she can be a valuable asset to the team through rebounding or through dishing the ball off. Not to be overlooked, but her defense has been stellar the entire way and is going to continue to improve by year’s end.
Grace Colucci (Sr.) – 5-6 PG, Rumson Fair-Haven
The past three seasons, Colucci has been a role player off the bench for for Rumson Fair-Haven, but this year’s stats alone are single-handedly more than those three years combined. She’s found her stride at the three-point line and has been nothing short of a spectacular shooter this season. Colucci has not only taken advantage of additional playing time, but she’s finding a lot of open looks from beyond the arc to shoot. She’s found a quick release with her shot and isn’t forcing anything up that doesn’t need to be forced up. It’s turned her into one of the best three-point shooters in the state and one of the best pure scorers in the Shore Conference.
Cierra Pearson (Sr.) – 5-9 PG/SG, Saddle River Day
From one great three-point shooter to another, Pearson has seen a great deal of success with her scoring this season from beyond the arc. She’s continuously been reliable as a three-point shooter for SRD throughout her high school career, but the rest of her offense has developed tremendously and is peaking at the right time this season. Where she’s excelled as an offensive player with scoring, she’s been just as stellar of a passer. Most don’t focus enough on just how good of a passer she is and it’s been often been the catalyst of many scoring possessions for SRD this season.
Amarilis Shubick (So.) – 5-4 SG/PG, St. Thomas Aquinas
We finish this article talking about another sharp-shooter in Shubick, someone who has already established herself as a premier perimeter threat in the Shore Conference. Well over half of her scoring comes from three-pointers, which is a product of how effective of a shooter she’s been. That smooth shooting motion has improved greatly from her freshman year. Not just that, but her ability to get open on the floor has improved just as much. Shubick’s agility is better than ever before and as a result, those open looks are coming her way more and more by the game.
