Howard one of my state championship favorites this season, took an early lead on Mercy and never looked back. Even with sub rotations there wasn’t much that the Magic could do to match the size and speed of the Lions. Regardless of the outcome there was quite a bit of talent on both sides of the ball. Here are some players that were impressive during the game.
Meghan Yarnevich Meghan Yarnevich 6'2" | C Bullis | 2025 State MD – 6’2″ – Post – Howard – 2025
Meghan is only a freshman but is finishing with both hands in the paint and blocking shots without swatting. She actively calls for the ball posting up strong inside. All of these traits contributed to a 17 point double-double.
Gabrielle Kennerly Gabrielle Kennerly 5'10" | SF Howard | 2023 State MD – 5’9″ – Combo Guard – Howard – 2023
Gabrielle finished with 15 points that seemed effortless for her. She had the mid-range game going and was able to get to the rack. She shot 75% from the line making the defense pay for hacking her. She has a smooth flow to her game that makes everything look easy for her.
Milan Brown Milan Brown 5'9" | CG Mercy | 2025 State MD – 5’9 – Combo Guard – Mercy – 2025
Brown finished with 11 points and virtually every shot was a highlight real play. She showed great elevation, there was one play where she ran down the player on the break and blocked the shot at the rim. She may have scored around 20 making her free throws but the rim seemed like it had a lid on it.
Gabby Scott Gabby Scott 6'0" | SF Howard | 2022 State MD – 6’1″ – Forward – Howard – 2022
Gabby is a very effective player in the paint but she can easily step out and knock down the three as well. Her ability to stretch the floor makes her difficult to defend by post players and guards because has an advantage inside. She finished the game with 11 points.
Olivia List – 5’10” – Forward – Mercy – Forward – 2023
Mercy only managed to score 29 points and Olivia had 6 of them. She scored from one, two and three, making a free-throw, three pointer and a layup.
