Hailey Cabanas (Sr.) – 5-6 PG/SG, Wayne Valley
Cabanas has been a mainstay on Wayne Valley the past four seasons and has been a starter the last three. While her most productive season in terms of scoring might have been last year, she’s expanded her game a lot this season, most notably from the three-point line. This is a player who we’ve seen have a great deal of success from three in her career, but she’s a much more clinical shooter this season. Cabanas can create her own space for shots and is reliable even when well-covered. We’re really seeing that playmaking ability come alive as a senior.
Isabella Duval (Sr.) – 5-5 PG/SG, Passaic Tech
Duval is in the midst of a career season in most, if not all statistical categories. Her game goes from the three-point line in as she’s really mastered her outside shooting overall. More than half of her scoring comes from three, but that’s not by accident. This senior guard is one of the best shooters in the county and has evolved other parts of her game to compliment her shooting ability. What makes Duval effective is the rest of her game outside of her three-point shooting. She can draw contact when driving into the lane, find open teammates on the offensive end or disrupt an opponent’s offensive scheme and cause a turnover, and then some.
Ron’Shanae Austin (Jr.) – 5-9 SG/SF, Paterson Eastside
Austin is the perfect hybrid of a guard and forward, but unfortunately, she missed nearly a month of play in the middle of the season. Despite the absence from the court, the junior has shown herself to be a vital piece on the glass. Austin is easily one of the top rebounders on Eastside and in the county. She’s really developed her three-point shooting over her career and is having her best season when it comes to perimeter shooting. That added dimension in Austin’s game has been a crucial one when it comes to overall player development.
Symiaha Brown-Cobb (Jr.) – PG/SG, Paterson Eastside
Brown-Cobb’s best offensive season when it comes to scoring was her freshman year. However, the strides she’s made toward rounding her game have made her quite the player overall. The part of her game that stands out the most now is her passing as she’s transferred those points from herself to her teammates. Brown-Cobb does a great job at getting teammates involved and is finding open passing lanes much more easily than before. That shows great improvement and development of her basketball IQ.
Jordan Carmosino (Jr.) – SG/PG, Lakeland
Carmosino is having quite the junior year for Lakeland, quickly becoming one of the best overall shooters in the county. Something has finally clicked for her this season and it has to do with her overall playmaking ability. In previous years, Carmosino proved that she can shoot the three. What’s working for her this year is that she’s executing well as a catch-and-shoot player. Her sweet spots are more toward the wings, so as soon as she finds space, she’s getting open for a shot. We can see much more confidence from her as she’s not afraid to shoot with a defender in her face. If the ball is coming to her, she’s going to let it fly.
Avery Vacca (So.) – PG, West Milford
Vacca has found her stride this season after showing glimpses of success as a freshman. She’s become a relied-upon player on this West Milford team and is already one of their best overall players. Vacca is a pure scorer and can beat you in a number of ways, whether that be from beyond the arc, inside the perimeter or at the foul line. She plays aggressive and plays to her strengths, which has often been drawing contact. Her dribble penetration into the lane is stellar and she can post up when needed to. That draws defenders in and opens up the floor for her teammates. If she can knock down another three a game, Vacca will be an elite guard in the region without a doubt.
