St. Thomas Aquinas, Wekiva, Nease, and Bloomingdale head to Lakeland for the 6A Semi-Finals and Finals competing for a State Championship!

The State Championship may have been decided back in Florida, when St. Thomas defeated Blanche Ely 57-53. Junior Guard [player_tooltip player_id="91641" first="Karina" last="Gordon"] has had the hot hand lately and is averaging 13.8 points per game and has been stroking it from deep beyond the 3 at a high percentage. Junior [player_tooltip player_id="151282" first="Alancia" last="Ramsey"] is the state’s most physical and aggressive interior player and is a walking double-double averaging 12.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. STA is probably the deepest team in the state and get contributions from Seniors [player_tooltip player_id="91572" first="Breanna" last="Gustave"], [player_tooltip player_id="220011" first="Maya" last="Williams"], and [player_tooltip player_id="154841" first="Jada" last="Green"], Junior [player_tooltip player_id="219942" first="Reina" last="Green"], Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="221678" first="Kamryn" last="Corporan"], and Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="248694" first="Nyla" last="McFadden"]. It is a nice luxury to have that very few teams in the state can go 8 deep and likely will be the key to them going back-to-back!

Standing in St. Thomas way is the Wekiva Mustangs who fell to St. Thomas in the finals of the 2021 6A Finals. Wekiva won their regional games by an average of 22 points per game including a 20-point win over St. Cloud in the regional finals. Wekiva will look to their high flying, uber athletic, explosive scorer [player_tooltip player_id="243885" first="Jada" last="Eads"] who enters the State Final Four averaging 17.2 points per game. In order to take home the championship, Wekiva will need big games from Eads as well as Seniors [player_tooltip player_id="353522" first="Shaniyah" last="McCarthy"] and Rylan Moffitt. Both McCarthy and Moffitt are averaging 9 points and 6 rebounds per game.

They are led by Senior [player_tooltip player_id="243958" first="Sydney" last="Gomes"]. Gomes is headed to Florida Southern next year and leads the team in points (20.3 PPG), rebounds (6.3 RPG), and assists (5.0 APG). Nease has three players averaging double digits, in addition to Gomes, they will need help from the supporting cast (aka the fairy Godmothers) of [player_tooltip player_id="243999" first="Camryn" last="Robinson"] (14.6 PPG) and Allison Field (11.0 PPG) to bring home the glass slipper (aka the 6A State Championship)!

They are in Lakeland for the first time in school history and will rely heavily on their full court and half-court defense to bring home the championship. Guard play is where most of Bloomingdale offense comes from with Senior [player_tooltip player_id="248439" first="Joline" last="Raposo"] leading the way at 10.6 points per game, followed by Juniors Aissatou Diallo (8.9 PPG) and Ava Knauer (7.1 PPG).
