On paper and in warmups, this looked to be a very competitive game. Early foul trouble for Meade derailed some key matchups and the fact that Mustangs shot under thirty percent from the free throw line didn’t help much either. Ultimately, the Knights proved to be too fast and too deep for Meade, then there was Mekhia Chase,,,,,
Standouts:
Mekhia Chase – 5’9″ – Wing – St. Mary’s Ryken – 2023
Mekhia Chase had a career day where everything seemed to go right for her. She scored 18 of her game high 25 points in the first half. She knocked down several 3-pointers and rebounded well. Mekhia did whatever she wanted to do as Meade was powerless to stop her. When mentioning stockrisers the name Mekhia Chase should be at the top moving forward.
Laleh Black – 5’7″ – Guard – Meade – 2022
With the 6’3″ post Avani Burton Avani Burton 6'2" | C Riverdale Baptist School | 2024 State MD in foul trouble for most of the game Laleh was forced to dip to the high post for much of the game. She was very effective spinning off and attacking the basket from that position and repeatedly drew contact getting to the line. She finished with 6 points in the game but was only 2 for 9 from the charity stripe.
Carine Pickney – 5’5″ – Point Guard – St. Mary’s Ryken – 2022
Carine played the facilitator role looking to get her teammates involved. She scored 9 points and sat out most of the final quarter as the Knight held a comfortable lead. She was the quickest player on the floor and her speed created the numbers advantage repeatedly on the fast break. She was also able to get the Knights in their offensive rhythm early in the shot clock.
Ayani Brown – 5’6″ – Guard – Meade – 2022
Brown was the bright spot for Meade. She had some hot shooting making four 3-pointers, scoring 16 points. She showed senior leadership as she never stopped competing even after the game got out of hand. She drives well and is fast in transition. Her game would fit in well at the college level.
Dakota Jones – 5’8″ – Guard – St. Mary’s Ryken – 2022
Dakota had a good second half off the bench. She came in the game with a lot of energy and played as if the score was tied. She attacked the basket well and finished off an impressive three-point play in the final minutes to finish with 5 points.
