Tamia Smith (Fr.) – PG/SG, Glassboro
Glassboro came into its opening round game of the tournament with an 0-15 record to start the season. That was until Smith carried the Bulldogs to its first win of the season with a 31-point effort against Clayton. She showcased her dominance in that game, driving to the rim with ease and drawing contact to get to the foul line. This season might be a rebuilding year for Glassboro, but with Smith doing what she’s doing as a freshman, this program is going to rebound quickly.
Jordyn Jones (So.) – PF/C, Clayton
Jones is a steady presence on both sides of the basketball, able to score in the post and box out opponents to get rebounds. What has worked best for her, and what worked best for her in Clayton’s first round game against Glassboro is her shot-blocking. Jones uses her size and wingspan well and immediately creates mismatches for opponents that frees her up to swat shots or passes away. Once she establishes herself in the post, it’s a nightmare for opponents to try to score on her.
Angelina Linder (So.) – SG/PG, Pitman
Linder had a fantastic game in a losing effort against Cumberland, recording the first double-double of her high school career. She looked comfortable while handling the ball and she played aggressive on defense and on the glass. We’ve seen moments of greatness out of Linder like this performance throughout the season. The more consistent she can continue to string that production together, the better she’ll set herself up moving forward.
Zahaisha Nevius (So.) – PG, Overbrook
Nevius is easily a candidate for breakout player of the year in the Tri-County Conference because this sophomore has put together quite the season so far. She can score at whim, she’s an efficient shooter from the perimeter, she knows how gain position in the post to rebound and her overall defense is stellar. There really aren’t many other complete guards like her in the conference and she’s just going to continue to improve.
Jameelyonna Horace (So.) – G/F, Penns Grove
Horace has burst onto the scene for Penns Grove this season and is one of the main reasons the Red Devils won the C Bracket tournament. She’s a talented scorer who is developing her game in front of our eyes. Horace can score in a number of ways, not just relying on one. It’s paid off for her as she’s consistently scored 20+ points a game and can surely do that over the course of a full season. We’ll continue to watch to see her development, especially on the defensive end as she’s already established herself there.
Brianna Robbins (Fr.) – G/F, Penns Grove
Robbins has come up clutch in some big spots for Penns Grove this season, including the championship game of the tournament. Her team-high 11 points helped put away Overbrook in that game and we could see the level of confidence she had as the game wore on. Robbins is playing with maturity and poise as a freshman and already has a great feel for the game. There are some very encouraging signs with her passing and how she’s approaching the defensive side of the ball. It’s a good problem for Penns Grove to have as they continue to watch this budding superstar grow.
