A position that gets a lot of grief and is put off as a smaller center is the power forward. Through correct terminology, a power forward plays identical to a center but takes longer shots. In this article, we’ll discuss how that’s accurate and not so much as the game of basketball has advanced in the previous years that power forwards are looked at like small forwards a lot more in regards to putting the ball on the floor... This article isn’t a debate, but rather a statement in which we’ll discuss the top 5 power forwards in North Dakota for the class of 2022 and how each differentiates and plays alike. Let’s dive in! [player_tooltip player_id="99822" first="Emily" last="Srejma"] - Fargo Shanley - (6’4/PF/2022) - Emily stands out with her size at a lengthy 6’4 stature. A solid athlete for her size and has surprisingly quick lateral speed. She has the ability to cut off faster defenders and get out with her speed to contest open jump shots. She can handle the rock a little which helps her get out of double teams within the post and find her shot. [player_tooltip player_id="99799" first="Madison" last="Spacher"] - Watford City - (5’11/PF/2022) -  Spacher can hurt teams in a variety of ways. She has really solid court awareness that let’s her find open teammates. This past season she averaged over 4 assists per game. She’s a forward that can drive and kick like a guard while also creating her own shot within the post. Madison is a versatile player that crashes offensive boards hard and is an unselfish teammate. A recent Valley City commit that will surely make noise in the North Star division in coming years. [player_tooltip player_id="99798" first="Cassie" last="Erickson"] - Grafton - (6’2/PF/2022) - Cassie is a 3 level scorer. She’s extremely versatile being able to take her man off the dribble to the rim, shoot the deep 3 ball from Narnia and battle on the block with the best of the post players. Cassie is a playmaking big that creates great opportunities for her teammates. She’s a true threat offensively and defensively and can guard 2-5 any night of the week. She’s athletic, long, built and can run like a deer. She’s currently unsigned which should change by the end of the season. [player_tooltip player_id="245564" first="Ivy" last="Fox"] - Parshall - (6’0/PF/2022) - Ivy is another 3-level player. watching her play this year it’s no wonder she singed with NDSCS. Her ability to score and defend are outmatched by any prospect on this list. She’s a smart defensive player that is always in the right spot at the right time. She plays with such passion and aggression you can see how hungry she is too win and get better at the game. She can catch and shoot or rip off the catch. She bullies smaller defenders in the post and plays with a chip on her shoulder for good reason. It’ll be interesting watching her progress into a better player while with the Wildcats for the next 2 years. [player_tooltip player_id="99805" first="Brailyn" last="Davis"] - Dunseith - (6’0/PF/2022) - Davis Is a walking double-double. She has great size and technique within the post that she creates such problems for defensive players. On the other side of the ball she so tough to get around. She’s fast enough to switch on quick guards in the pick n roll situations and has good enough footwork to cut them off getting down hill. Davis currently signed with Lake Region should be impressive to watch at the next level of competition.
