Olivia Olson Olivia Olson 5'8" | PG Cuba City | 2025 State WI -5’7 G-’25-Cuba City
The Cuba City freshman played in her first WIAA playoff game last night. Olson has shown flashes this season of her potential. Olson played as well as anyone could’ve hoped. The freshman finished the game with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and one turnover. She shot 8 for 11 from the field, and two of her misses were 3’s. She was unbelievable last night. The games will only get more challenging as Cuba City advances. That said, when Olson is at her best, they won’t be an easy team to beat.
Lindsay Steien Lindsay Steien 5'9" | CG Blair- Taylor | 2023 State WI -5’9 G-’23-Blair-Taylor
One of the best scorers all season was up to her old tricks in the opening round. Steien scored 34 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out three assists, and earned seven steals. Steien has a right to claim that she’s the best player in the Division 5 ranks this season. She’s been in the top-three in the state in scoring most of the season, and the crazy part is she didn’t even play her best last night. Steien missed all seven 3’s she took and turned the ball over four times. When she plays at her best Blair-Taylor is nearly impossible to beat, especially when Abby Thompson Abby Thompson 5'6" | CG Blair- Taylor | 2023 WI plays well alongside Steien.
Lily Truchon Lily Truchon 5'11" | PG South Shore | 2023 State WI -5’11 G/F-’23-South Shore
Truchon has been one of the more intriguing players I’ve come across this season. She is a 5’11 wing who can handle the ball and make things happen. Last night against Luck, she showed why she’s such an intriguing prospect. Truchon finished with 23 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, four steals, and five blocks. At the high school level, the junior may be the most versatile player I’ve seen. She protects the paint, defends the perimeter, creates for her teammates, shoots at a high level, and attacks the basket. What more could you ask for in a prospect? is what I find myself asking. With Emily Montgomery playing alongside her, South Shore is a dark horse candidate in the Divison 5 ranks.
Emily Cooper Emily Cooper 5'7" | SG Mcdonnell Central Catholic | 2024 State WI -5’8 G-’23-McDonnel Central
Before the tournament started, I highlighted Cooper as the x-factor in Division 5. Although they played a No. 16 seed, Cooper still played great. She finished with 22 points, five rebounds, four assists, and six steals. We know Cooper will defend anyone in the Division 5 tournament. However, my reasoning for making her D5’s x-factor is her offensive game, mainly her shooting. Last night, Cooper shot 9 for 17 and made 40% of her 3’s. If McDonnel Central gets games like this over the weekend and next weekend, her team will be in Green Bay.
