Shawnee (18-2)
The Renegades advanced to the Final Four of The South Jersey Invitational Basketball Tournament with a dominant 70-25 win over Kingsway on Sunday, out-scoring the Dragons 48-16 in the second half. Shawnee has evolved from a middle of the road team nearly two years ago to one of the top contenders in the Olympic Conference. Thanks to the play of stars such as Nia Scott Nia Scott 6'1" | PF Shawnee | 2023 State NJ (12.4 PPG, 8.2 RPG), Avery Kessler Avery Kessler SG Shawnee | 2023 State NJ (14.3 PPG, 1.8 3PFGM) and Kaylan Deveney (8.2 PPG), among others, the Renegades are for real in South Jersey and are here to dominate.
Lenape (15-5)
Despite losing to rival Shawnee on Feb. 8, the Lady Indians have advanced to the Final Four of the SJIBT for the first time in program history, taking down a very good Clearview team in the quarterfinals. If you haven’t been watching the play of freshman Alexa Henry, she dominated in that quarterfinal game, scoring a career-high 30 points and putting Lenape on her back. Junior Kaitlyn King is averaging the same PPG as Henry as both are around 12.1 PPG. The junior presence is real on this team as Kristen Cortese (10.1 PPG) and Ava Doughtery (6.5 PPG) have created such a great foundation for this team to build upon.
Wildwood Catholic (19-4)
The Crusaders put together another 3-0 week, currently riding an eight-game winning streak since losing to Ocean City on January 27. Arguably their most impressive win of the week was an 11-point win over Delran, a game that featured a season-high 19 points from forward Ava Vodges. Scoring leader Kaci Mikulski had another fantastic week for WC, with 14 or more points in all three games over the week, knocking down 2.7 made threes a game on average. There’s something incredibly special about this team, who will be competing for championship hardware come the postseason.
Mainland (19-2)
Despite losing to arguably the class of the region in Paul VI, Mainland still had a 3-1 week, taking down Oakcrest twice after defeating Shawnee the week before, a three-point win for the Mustangs. Mainland won its three games by an average margin of 29 points, scoring 50+ points in those games. It’s been a cast of seniors and sophomores leading the Mustangs this season as Kaitlyn Boggs and Camryn Dirkes have been the veteran leaders while Kasey Bretones and sisters Ava and Bella Mazur are paving the way for future teams in this program.
Ocean City (13-6)
It was a perfect 4-0 week for the Red Raiders, who are now riding a four-game winning streak, taking down Vineland twice in back-to-back games, and a tough Williamstown squad as well. The guard play of Avery Jackson and Hannah Cappelletti has been knocking down over four made three-pointers a game this season, with the sophomore Cappelletti leading the way in the perimeter shooter department. The Red Raiders are back in contention in the Cape-Atlantic League and will certainly make things interesting with a 12-3 conference record so far.
