<p style="padding-left: 40px;"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Thursday night (March 10th) had the #1 overall seed, Volcano Vista Hawks matched up in the Semi-Finals against the #4 seed Farmington Lady Scorpions. </span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 40px;"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Volcano is the reigning, defending champions of 5A who are on the brink of a perfect season; they finished the regular season 25-0 which resulted in winning both the Metro Championship & the District 1-5A Title. Carrying their momentum into the State Tournament seems to be an understatement as the Hawks are crushing their opposition thanks to stellar play on the offensive end. </span><span style="font-size: 14pt;">It was no surprise to see Volcano reach the Semi-Finals of the 5A State Tournament considering the talented trio they possess: Seniors [player_tooltip player_id="353693" first="Jaelyn" last="Bates"], [player_tooltip player_id="353694" first="Natalia" last="Chavez"] and Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="357657" first="Taejhuan" last="Hill"]. </span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 40px;"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">On the Flip side, #4 Farmington has a talented trio of their own in the Anitielu sisters: Senior Kiiyani, Junior Kamalani and Sophomore Kapiolani - Farmington was fantastic all year finishing 26-2 during the regular season and defeated District 3-5A champs Las Cruces to reach the semis. </span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 40px;"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The Hawks Big 3 combined for 52 points leaving their mark all over the court earning a 5A championship berth for the third consecutive year. The Hawks defeated the Scorpions 67-55 which resulted in the following stats for the trio: [player_tooltip player_id="353694" first="Natalia" last="Chavez"] with 21 points (five 3s) and 6 rebounds, [player_tooltip player_id="353693" first="Jaelyn" last="Bates"] 13 points and 5 assists and [player_tooltip player_id="357657" first="Taejhuan" last="Hill"] putting up a monster double-double with 18 points and 15(!) rebounds. </span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 40px;"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The State Championship Game will be a rematch with the #1 Hawks taking on the #2 Lady Eagles of Hobbs. A game that will now settle a best of three as they each have beaten one another to claim a State Title over the last two years. The game will be played at “The Pit”, Home to the University Of New Mexico Lobos, at 6:00pm mtn time on Friday night (March 11th). Volcano is now 28-0 while Hobbs is 23-7. </span></p>
