However, we wanted to make sure that we finished up our analysis of the semifinals for each of the four public school groups, continuing with the Group 3 semifinals, which concluded on Wednesday.
Joi Johnson Joi Johnson 5'11" | PF Ewing | 2024 State NJ (So.) – 5-11 PF/C, Ewing
Johnson came up big for Ewing in its final game of the season, recording a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double with two blocks and three steals. She continued a streak of 35-straight games with at least two blocks and she’s bringing a four-game double-double streak into next season. Overall, she recorded 21 double-doubles on the year and was an absolute force on both sides of the basketball for Ewing.
Bella Mazur (So.) – SG, Mainland
Mazur had herself a fantastic semifinal against Ewing, knocking down a three-pointer on the day on her way to a 15-point night. The sophomore guard hauled in four rebounds and recorded two steals on the day as well. Mazur has been one of the most consistent three-point scorers on this team over the season. Her pure scoring ability is a main reason for their berth into the Group 3 final. She plays confident and with a chip on her shoulder that gives her that extra edge on the floor.
Kaitlyn Boggs (Sr.) – 6-0 PF/C, Mainland
Boggs put together quite the semifinal performance against two of the best forwards in North Jersey that play for Ewing. She had herself a crucial double-double, a 15-point, 12-rebound performance against the Blue Devils, recording a block and a steal in the game as well. Mainland is able to run the offense through her a lot of the time as she’s a forward who can really control the game in the middle. When Boggs is on, Mainland is on and right now, both of them are very much clicking on all cylinders.
Mia Semioli (Fr.) – 5-9 PG/SG, Chatham
Semioli played well in the semis against Sparta and looked incredibly confident from beyond the arc. The freshman guard knocked down two three-pointers on the day, scoring 13 points along with three rebounds and four assists. She attacked the basket well, contributing to her getting to the line often and hitting five free throws in the game. She led Chatham on Wednesday, but came up just short in the end.
Ally Sweeney Ally Sweeney 5'8" | SG Sparta | 2023 State NJ (Jr.) – 5-6 PG, Sparta
Sweeney was the talk of the Group 3 semifinals, knocking down a game-winner as time expired to send Sparta to the Group 3 finals. She had an absolutely dominant performance, her second 30-point performance in three games, scoring 30 points, recording three assists, a block, two steals and knocking down 3 three-pointers as well. Sweeney looked impossible to guard in that game, scoring in just about any way you can think of as Sparta emerged victorious.
Alexa Acker (Sr.) – 6-0 PF/C, Sparta
Acker has been a big time presence down low for Sparta and she proved to be quite the impact player on Wednesday, putting up nine points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in the semis. What an absolute monster Acker is on the defensive end of the ball, recording at least two blocks or more in now her last five straight games. She’s been providing that stability in the lane that has allowed players like Sweeney to play their games and dominate.
