It was a solid two days of competition at the Big Time Hoops Showcase. Girls from New Mexico, El Paso, and the State of Washington gave all they had in front of college coaches for an opportunity to play at the next level as there were 12 colleges in attendance. Here is a look at some players that made the most of their weekend.
Kayana “KK” Bass, Wapato HS, Wapato (W.A.) 5’10” Junior

Bass showed versatility on both ends of the court. Reading and jumping passing lanes for easy buckets on defense while also scoring at all three levels on offense. Her length helped on defense to guard both on the perimeter and in the paint. On offense, her quickness off the dribble gave her an advantage over defenders and she also showed she could hit from the 3 pt. line when they backed off to prevent her from attacking. KK averaged 8.2 pts.
Taelene Fowler, Socorro HS, Socorro, NM 5’8” Senior

Fowler showed her athleticism on the court running the floor and crashing the glass. Her scoring ability was evident in attacking the basket off the dribble for layups and had a game of 20 pts. Fowler can shoot it from distance as she hit 8 threes on the weekend averaging 11pts.
[player_tooltip player_id="403556" first="Cameron" last="Conners"], Santa Fe Indian School, Santa Fe, 5’8” Senior

Conners was a solid presence in the paint on both ends of the court. Cameron was able to post up and pin defenders for buckets and also work the high post and drop good touch passes to her fellow post player. She took what the defense gave her and was not afraid to step out and shoot the 3 to keep the defense honest. Conners does all the little things to help her team. Cameron averaged 8.3 pts

Yvanna Villarreal, Organ Mountain HS, Las Cruces, NM5’5” Sophomore

Yvanna’s aggressiveness on defense was noticeable as she harassed opposing guards consistently. Strong ball handling and the ability to get to the basket and also knock down 3’s in transition allowed her to lead her team in scoring at 11.2 pts.

[player_tooltip player_id="403439" first="Jordan" last="Torres"], Santa Fe Indian School, Santa Fe, NM 5’2 Senior

Torres is a true floor general that can control the tempo. She was confident with the ball in her hands and looked to find her teammates for easy baskets. Do not let this pass-first point guard fool you, she can score the rock and put up points. Her jump shot was smooth and in rhythm knocking down 6 threes and a couple were from well behind the arc. Jordan averaged 9.6 pts.
