Continue ReadingI have so many memories about this Desoto group, I know they were young when I first saw them play, 3rd or 4th grade and even then, you could just tell this would be a special group of young ladies. They defended their state title in the highest of conferences and with 3 trips to the state tournament in 4 seasons, they will go down as one of the greatest teams ever. What’s even more impressive is that they won both without one of the state’s Top PG’s Michayla Gatewood Michayla Gatewood 5'8" | PG DeSoto | 2022 State TX , who was injured both times, the game starts at the 1, she is definitely one of the ones and is headed to Kansas State. Peep this, they had size. 6’5 Tionna Herron Tionna Herron 6'3" | PF DeSoto | 2022 State TX (Kentucky) 6’4 Sa’Myah Smith Sa’Myah Smith 6'4" | PF DeSoto | 2022 State #14 Nation TX (LSU) also last seasons state MVP and 6’4 Amina Muhammad Amina Muhammad 6'3" | PF DeSoto | 2022 State TX (Texas) as they formed a magnificent interchangeable trio to control the interior, on both ends yet 6’2 Ayanna Thompson Ayanna Thompson 5'10" | PF DeSoto | 2022 State TX (Ole Miss) has been one of their most versatile players on both ends of the floor, playing multiple positions as well as scoring multiple ways
Here is your UIL 6A All-State Team
Jamia Harris Jamia Harris 5'7" | SG DeSoto | 2022 State TX (Desoto)
Harris was ice from the free-throw line knocking down 8/10 yet her poise under pressure and ability to run the point spoke volumes when she had to take it over after Gatewood’s injury but watching her over the club season and the transformation I saw her making offensively was amazing, the search bar is here for a reason. use it to find out what I said yet let me say this, she will definitely do some damage at the next level (Kansas State) and you can revisit the search bar later because I see it coming. She was also named MVP of the tournament
Jiya Perry Jiya Perry 5'11" | SF DeSoto | 2022 State TX (Desoto)
Perry has been a player that just crept up on you, she does so many things in the flow that after the game, you check out the stat sheet and she has filled it up, perfect example was the semifinal game against hometown team Northside Clark where she dropped 15, hit the boards as well as applied some heat on the defensive end, all are good and will transition over to her next stop, not too far from Desoto, at SMU
Victoria Dixon Victoria Dixon 5'5" | PG South Grand Prairie | 2022 State TX (South Grand Prairie)
Dixon closed out her career with 10 points and 5 assists which if you understand simple math, accounted for over half of her team’s points yet the electrifying guard has been a legitimate scoring threat since I caught her a few seasons ago. Off the dribble, that first step is definitely hard to handle yet her finishes after contact are nice as well, so is mid to long-range yet that court vision and understanding who to and when to get the ball to plays into them reaching the championship
Taylor Barnes Taylor Barnes 6'1" | SF South Grand Prairie | 2025 State TX (South Grand Prairie)
Barnes upside is somewhat scary, first of all, she stands at “the magic number” and for those of you who don’t pay attention, that’s 6’0 aka what college coaches blow my phone up asking about yet her phone will be blowing up when it’s time to receive calls as she is a #D1Lock with a very bright future
Ramsey Robledo- 5’10 G (Northside Clark)
Robledo’s opening in the semifinal game was simply amazing as she was unconscious from the outside dropping the long ball with ease yet she will ease into the Top 100 on my NEXT update
