We released an updated rankings for the class of 2022 earlier in the week. After taking a look at the top 10 and the stock risers, we now take a look at the class of 2022 Newcomers!

With over 300 players ranked in the class of 2022, here are some of the top newcomers.
Laniya Johnson Laniya Johnson CG Bellview | 2022 State FL (Bellview) – 5’7 Guard
Overall Rank: 135
Johnson goes from unranked to # 136 in the final 2022 rankings. On the court, Johnson is a high volume shot taker, putting up over 400 shots in 20 games. She averaged 21.4 points, shooting 43% from the field and 32% from 3. She stepped up, when it mattered most, late in the season during playoff time. In her teams last four games of the season, she went for 32 points v West Port, 23 points v Citrus, 31 points vs Dunnellon, and 27 points vs St. John Lutheran. The four game swing, helped earn her Bellview squad a spot in the regional finals.
Marla Fernandez Marla Fernandez CG Jefferson | 2022 State FL (Jefferson HS) – 5’5 Guard
Overall Rank: 139
Fernandez also goes from unranked into the top 150, coming in at # 140 in the final 2022 rankings. The 5’5 Guard averaged an impressive 21.3 points per game in 22 games for Jefferson HS out of Tampa. Fernandez, a combo guard that can play both the point guard and shooting guard position, did everything she could to lead Jefferson to win in every game she played. She scored 20+ points in over half of her team’s games, dropped 32 on Gaither on January 19, and had her season and career high of 40 points on December 17 versus Riverview going 13/22 from the field, 9/16 from 3, and 5/8 from the free throw line!
Mya Lomax (Haines City HS) – 5’3 Guard
Overall Rank: 92
Lomax, a 5’3 point guard finishes the season at # 143 in the final rankings for the class of 2022. Haines City played a reduced schedule, only playing 12 games and Lomax made the most out of the games, scoring 20+ in 10 of 12 games, and finishing the season averaging 20.8 points per game. She consistently displayed a quick first step, shifty open court moves and an ability to get into the paint and score at the rim throughout the season.
Caroline Smith Caroline Smith SF Northside Christian Academy | 2022 State FL (Northside Christian Academy) – 5’9 Guard
Overall Rank: 147
Smith led her team in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game, while also grabbing 11.5 rebounds and snatching 5.1 steals per game. The 5’9 Guard was the do everything for her Northside Christian Academy squad, leading them to a 17-4 record, accounting for half of her teams points and rebounds.
T’yana Todd T’yana Todd 5'11" | CG IMG Academy | 2022 State FL (IMG Academy) – 6’0 Guard
Overall Rank: 148
Todd is a big 6’0, skilled and versatile guard that was a big part of IMG Academy success this season. She has excellent length, showcasing her ability to put the ball to the floor and get to the rim or shoot over opponents. She is a crafty finisher around the rim and can knock down the outside shot. Bekky Valenzuela Bekky Valenzuela SF Coral Shores | 2022 State FL (Coral Shores) – 5’9 Guard/Wing/Forward
Overall Rank: 159
Valenzuela averaged 19.0 points per game for Coral Shores this season and comes in at # 161 in the final rankings after being unranked. Valenzuela, a 5’9 Guard/Wing/Forward, did a little bit of everything for her Coral Shores squad, averaging a double-double on the season averaging 12.9 rebounds per game. Look at a box score or stat sheet after a Coral Shores game, and you could see Valenzuela knew how to fill it up. In addition to averaging 19.0 points and 12.9 rebounds per game, she also averaged 6.8 assists and 5.1 steals. She reached double digits in points and rebounds in every game she played this season, as well as reached double digit steals once, and double digit assists four times. She started the season off on November 16 vs St. Brendan with a triple double (16 points, 15 rebounds, 10 steals) and never looked back. She would go onto have four more triple doubles and led her squad to the regional finals.
Rachel Leggett Rachel Leggett SF Navarre | 2022 State FL (Navarre) – 5’9 Wing / Forward
Overall Rank: 160
Leggett was impressively consistent this season, going from unranked to # 162 in the final rankings of the class of 122. She scored in double digits in all 27 of her team’s games, averaging 18.9 points per game. Pointing points on the board was not the only way she helped her team, the 5’9 Senior averaged 8.9 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game as well. In the paint was where Leggett was most successful, shooting 52% from 2, while also grabbing double digit rebounds in 11 games including 15 in 3 different games. At 5’9, she has excellent length and versatility, playing both inside and on perimeter and is able to guard multiple positions and score both in the paint and on the wing.

This is the fourth and final rankings for the class of 2022. We have taken a look at players performance and potential with both their High School and Travel teams. Our goal is to cover the entire state, but we are well aware that we have not seen everyone in the state and those that we have seen, we have not seen all of them equally the same amount of time and games.
