Continue ReadingThe Girls Under Armour Association converged in Hoover, AL, and brought talent from across the country to the south. It was an excellent platform for the young ladies as college coaches feasted on the talent that was on display. I only covered the 17U division for this event, and there were playmakers on every court. Let’s take a look at some of my immediate takeaways from this well-run event…
Madison Greene (5’7/Point Guard/2023)
AAU Team: Cincinnati Angels
Instagram: mad1son_04
Twitter: @Mad1son_04
Madison is listed as a PG, but she is a PG that can score when needed. She has a brilliant floor game and is an excellent facilitator. She is a skilled guard who knows how to get her teammates involved and how to get them the ball in places where they can be productive.
Madison is small in stature but handled physical defensive pressure and played through contact on the perimeter.
She has a nice pull-up J off the bounce, showed that she can knock the trey ball, has a great understanding of time and situations, and is a stabilizing force at the PG spot. She played with a lot of poise and played under control. In the match-up against MBA, she poured in 14pts in a 49-53 loss.
Offers: Rutgers, Wisconsin, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Xavier
Jordynn Dudley (5’11/Wing/2023)
AAU Team: FBC The Family Supreme Team
Instagram: jordynndudley
Twitter: @jordynndudley
Jordynn is a player that thrived in transition. If FBC was out and running, you best believe JD was out filling a lane. When she got her hands on the ball, she looked to attack and proved to be a good finisher in transition. Jordynn showed her ability to get to cup off the bounce even in the half-court, as she was often slashing her way through the defense and finishing.
She impacted the game on both ends of the floor.
Defensively she was quick to jump the passing lanes turning defense into offense. As you will see below, she did not list having any offers, but if she continues to produce in the manner that she did at the GUAA event in Birmingham, she will capture the eyes of a program looking for a wing player that is a solid perimeter presence on both ends of the floor. In the match-up against Colorado Basketball Club, she paced FBC with 10pts in a 52-30 victory.
Offers: Nothing Listed
Kirsten Lewis Williams (5’10/Combo Guard/2023)
AAU Team: Bmaze Elite
Instagram: _kirzten_
Twitter: @Kirsten_Lewis21
Kirsten is a multi-dimensional lead guard that has found the balance between scoring and facilitating. I was able to put my eyes on Kirsten numerous times throughout the weekend, and at times she was locked into being a floor general, while at other times, she was locked into being a scorer. In both aspects of her game, she created off the bounce and made plays for herself and her teammates.
She has a knack for drawing fouls and getting to the line.
She has a couple of areas that she needs to work on this off-season; in particular, she needs to get stronger. She has the skillset but needs the strength to do some of the things that she has the ability to do with the ball in her hands.
Offers: Tusculum, Embry Riddle
Marina Radocaj (6’2/Wing/2023)
AAU Team: Become One
Instagram: Marina_radocaj
Twitter: @Marinaradocaj
One thing that immediately stands out when you see Marina is her wingspan. Offensively her jumper is soft and accurate whether she is wide-open or being contested. Marina is very methodical in her approach to the game and seems to try and do everything with a distinct purpose. She plays extremely hard and competes on every possession on both ends of the floor.
Offensively she showed her ability to post up and score off the low block, then she showed her ability to step out and knock down the mid-range J.
She is a versatile defender as she has the size, strength, and agility to guard multiple positions. As she continues to develop her handles, she will continue to develop into more of a threat.
Offers: She listed that she had 4 offers but did not drop the names.
Miya Giles Jones (6’1/Small Forward/2023)
AAU Team: Team Curry
Instagram: mbuckkss
Twitter: @mbuckks
When talking about this highly sought-after small forward, she has so many impactful ways that she affects the game. She is a strong defender with a solid offensive game. Add to that an athletic athlete with a solid frame, and you can begin to see why there is so much excitement around her, and interest in her is growing every weekend. She is a versatile player on both ends of the floor and has a rare combination of a strong frame, quickness, coordination, athleticism, passion, and instincts.
She is a player that defends, rebounds, and commits to keeping the offense moving.
She brings a lot to the floor game in and game out and is a player that impacts winning. Even though she can score, she does not have to score to affect the decision at the final buzzer.
Offers: Rutgers, Temple, ECU, Elon, USC Upstate, Northeastern, Central, UNCW
Khamil Pierre (6’2/Wing/2023)
AAU Team: Arizona Elite
Instagram: khamil.pierre
Twitter: @KhamilPierre
KP is a mixture of size, length, athleticism, handles, and a nice mid-range J. Everything just blends in harmony for Khamil. What seems like casual buckets or two winds up being a double-digit performance at the end of the game. In the process of silently filling up the stat sheet, she puts on display her ability to score the rock with the best of them.
Her mid-range J is lethal, and she gets downhill with the ball in her hand.
She was one of the best when it came to finishing at the rim. When it comes to KP’s game, not only does it all blend together, but it translates into consistent production. In the match-up against Team Curry, she went for 13pts leading her team to a 59-28 win.
Offers: Nothing Listed
Darriana Alexander (6’1/Combo Guard/2025)
AAU Team: West Virginia Thunder
Instagram: dee_2025
Twitter: @dee__2025
I did not get to see all the 17U teams, but of the teams I was able to see, Darriana was one of the most complete players I saw, and guess what, SHE IS JUST A FRESHMAN getting it done on the big stage. She has size coupled with athleticism. She is a 10-eye player, meaning when the ball is in her hands, she commands the eyes of everyone on defense that possession. Offensively she gets it done in numerous ways: she uses her size and long strides to get to the cup, where she easily finishes thru contact; she moves well without the ball, making herself an open target, and once she receives the rock, she is in position for easy buckets, and she even works the offensive glass getting put-backs.
Getting right down to it, she showed her versatility on both ends of the floor, and I will repeat it, SHE IS JUST A FRESHMAN.
Easily her stock was on the rise the entire weekend, ad she is an emerging prospect with long-term upside. She did not list any offers, but if she doesn’t have any, look for that to change soon. In the match-up against GTS, DA finished with 17pts in a 65-30 win.
Offers: Player did not list any offers.
