Zar’ria Mitchell (5’6/Point Guard/2023)
AAU Team: Michigan Storm
Instagram: zarriathegoat
Twitter: @Zarmitchell
When looking at Zar’ria’s game, you won’t see many flashy things about her game, but you will see a solid PG that runs the show. She handles the ball well and sees the floor very well. She is a calming force for her squad as she does a great job of limiting her turnovers, reading the floor, and making sure the ball is where it suppose to be the majority of the time. Zar’ria is surrounded by weapons, and she knows how to keep everyone happy.
She keeps the team playing in space and allows room for teammates to produce free of clogged lanes.
She is a solid player that showed she can be trusted with the rock in her hands over the course of the game.
Offers: Saginaw Valley and Ferris State
Chazadi Wright (5’4/Point Guard/2024)
AAU Team: FBC The Family Supreme
Instagram: chit_chat1
Twitter: @ChazadiW
Chazadi drew a lot of attention throughout the weekend. Her PG play was impressive, and I enjoyed watching her in P&R situations. She made laser-like passes between defenders, made high-level decisions coming off-ball screens, and kept the defense off-balance as they seemed confused in their rotations as she came off the ball screen. She pushed the tempo of the game and often got her squad in favorable conditions simply by not allowing the defense to get back and get set up.
Needless to say, Chazadi was a pleasant surprise as she put on several mature performances over the weekend.
She stands 5’4 but was one of the most efficient and under-control PGs that I saw.
Offers: Samford, Austin Peay, and Charleston Southern
Kymora Johnson (5’9/Point Guard/2023)
AAU Team: West Virginia Thunder
Instagram: kymorajohnson_
Twitter: @kymorajohnson_
KJ was one of the PGs that had a very good all-around game. She left her mark on every game on both ends of the court. In the match-up against GTS Fusion, she poured in 13pts in a solid performance that showed her ability to run the show and score when needed. She took advantage of the stage by producing at a high level and competing with tremendous effort. KJ is the epitome of a do it all PG that facilitates, distributes, and scores.
She can grab and go off the defensive glass, which helps her team get out in transition and get easy buckets.
KJ is a difficult cover when the ball is in her hands, as she has a hesi move that leaves defenders stuck. Kymora is the type of PG that affords coaches the option of being able to play a style that has options.
Offers: Check her Instagram Account (Yes, this is what she said on the questionnaire, so what are you waiting on…go check her Instagram)
Macy Brown (5’11/Point Guard/2023)
AAU Team: MBA
Instagram: macybrown7
Twitter: @macybrown_7
If there was any player that I enjoyed watching play throughout the weekend, it was Macy. A true floor general that has found her balance between scoring and facilitating. She is highly prolific in every facet of the game when it comes to a PG. She plays with a high IQ, as she recognizes where the ball should go, sees mismatches, understands what her coach wants on each possession, and has quick mental processing speed.
She has ingenious passing skills, can score the rock with the best of them, and has range well beyond the arc.
She is a big guard that probes well, and when gaps open has the quickness to hit them before they close, and when she gets downhill, she gets all the way to the cup and can finish thru contact. Whenever I am watching PGs, I look at their assist to turnover ratio (even though it is not tracked in most AAU tourneys), and just from the eye test, she took care of the ball very well, with how much the ball is in her hands. The University of Michigan has a reliable PG coming on campus next year.
Offers: Committed to University of Michigan
Reagan (Bree) Robinson (5’8/Point Guard/2023)
AAU Team: Become One
Instagram: breerob1nson & breerobinson2023
Twitter: @breerobinson_23
Before I get into the intricacies of Bree at the PG spot, let me just say she can stroke the rock and has one of the quickest releases I saw throughout the weekend. She is excellent in c&s opportunities from behind the arc. In the match-up against MBA, she finished with 19pts, with 15pts coming from behind the arc. Even though Bree did not list any offers, her trajectory is headed in the right direction, and if she does not have offers, she will soon.
Defensively, Bree was picking up full court, making the opposing team’s PGs work for every inch they got on the floor.
Bree’s level of ball pressure wore down every ball-handler I saw her defending throughout the weekend. There were not many weaknesses when it came to Bree’s game, which is why she is a viable weapon for any program looking to sure up the PG spot on their roster.
Offers: Player did not list any.
Maraja Pass (5’5/Point Guard/2023)
AAU Team: Team Curry
Instagram: Raypass.3
Twitter: @Marajapass3
Don’t let the size fool you when it comes to Maraja. She gets the job done at the PG spot. She has a great understanding of how to leverage her size against taller players, which she will definitely need when she steps into her next journey after high school. She is committed to running the show and making sure her squad is in the flow of what the coach desires. It was rare to see Maraja force action to try and get hers, but what you did see often was her playmaking skills getting her teammates the ball where they could make plays.
She is one of the PGs that is in full command of the offense at all times.
Her size may make her a frequent target on defense, but she does not back down when opponents try to force that type of play when she is on defense. She is exceptionally masterful when it comes to running the show.
Offers: University of Arkansas, Winston Salem State, Catawba U.
Shay Ijiwoye (5’6/Point Guard/2024)
AAU Team: Arizona Elite
Instagram: shayijiwoye
Twitter: @shayijiwoye
You can’t help but notice all of the offers that Shay listed. A 2024 prospect with a laundry list of schools seeking her services. She is a physically strong PG who plays through contact on her drives and at the cup. The Junior is in full control of the chief ball-handling duties on her squad, and she excels in being the alpha female on the team. She is a highly gifted passer and can make the diagonal pass or the straight-line pass.
She is a crafty ball-handler that knows how to do more with less with the ball in her hands.
In the game that I watched her play, scoring was not the strength of her game, but she did show that she could score when necessary. It is not surprising to me to see Shay with the multiple offers she currently holds because she is a high-level talent that can elevate an entire offense at the next level to the next level. A lot of eyes will be on Shay over the next year to see exactly who will acquire her talents.
