From altering shots to guarding those few girls taller than her and her aggressive nature to her ability to see the floor well, she’s an underrated defender that many coaches should keep an eye on.
Caroline Dotson Caroline Dotson 5'8" | CG Greenbrier East | 2025 WV , Greenbrier East, G, Fr., 5-7 – To put it simply, Dotson is a fiery and aggressive defender similar to her sister Emma. Maybe even more so than her sister. Where Emma was an athlete playing basketball, Caroline is a basketball player. Her understanding reaches farther on the court. Those instincts allow her access to more passing lanes and opportunities for double teams. As she continues to grow, Jim Justice should be sticking her on a team’s top scorer night in and night out.
Maci Mossor, Ravenswood, G, So., 5-5 – All defense-minded coaches should keep an eye on Mosser, she’s just versatile in any point-stopping unit. Throw her in one and she will be just fine. Box and one? Check. Zone? Check. Man-to-man? Check. Trap? Check. Diamond or any other kind of press? Check. Over and over again the answer is yes. Everything comes together because of her high basketball IQ and refusal to be beaten on the defensive end. She’s strong and hard to move out of the way. Put her on your radar, coaches.
Maddie Clark, Wyoming East, G, So., 5-7 – Maddie Clark leads Wyoming East on the offensive end. Of this, there is no doubt. It’s possible she may see her scoring load decrease next year now that Kayley Bane Kayley Bane 5'10" | SF Wyoming East | 2023 State WV and Cadee Blackburn are up and running on that side of the ball. One thing that won’t go down? She’s a long limbed nightmare for opposing offenses. She get’s into passing lanes and causes chaos.
Georgie Inman, Williamstown, G, Jr., 5-7 – Georgie Inman is tough as nails. Probably harder, to be quite honest. Stick her anywhere on the court and she’s getting you results. Whether its a steal, to shut down a teams top defender, or just playing the annoying trap partner for any of her teammates, Inman always gets the job done. If only she will a little taller, she may be able to play high Division II basketball. As it is, any mid-D-II team would be lucking to have her. With a to a motor that never quits and she is a kid who won’t take no for an answer. If you want somone all about team, Inman is the ultimate defender for many a program.
Sadaya Pryor, Morgantown, F, Fr., 5-8 – The first thing standing out about Jones is her length. She’s long, lanky and gets just about everyone. Naturally, that leads what she can do on offense. But her defensive impact is just just as big. It’s not small, or medium, or large. It’s really everyone. She can handle smaller guards and forwards, bigger guards and forwards, and any post player she comes across.
