Travel Team Transfer Portal - Class of 2023 Part Two By Michael Wholey 4/19/21 12:00 PM EST The talk of college basketball is the transfer portal with over 1,000 women’s basketball players in the transfer portal with plans to change colleges. And while the transfer portal is very popular in the college game, the conversation on the travel ball circuit is that the original transfer portal started with summer ball teams. With the spring/summer travel ball season kicked off, we take a look at some members of the class of 2023 that are suiting up for new teams. [player_tooltip player_id="219942" first="Reina" last="Green"] (Miami Suns to FGB) Green was one of last summer’s biggest stock risers, showcasing her extreme athleticism, college ready build, and an impressive ability to knock down the 3 from deep. Widely considered one of the state’s top athletes, with a big time vertical, Green shot a high percentage from 3 for the Miami Suns, having a number of games with multiple 3-pointers. She continued her scoring ways this High School season for St. Thomas Aquinas, helping them to another state championship. Green takes her talent to the UAA circuit, traveling this spring/summer with FGB CW UAA 17U. [player_tooltip player_id="91654" first="Tyra" last="Brown"] (Tampa Thunder to FGB) Running alongside Green on FGB CW UAA 17U will be the high flying, shot blocking, long, athletic, 6’2 Forward/Center [player_tooltip player_id="91654" first="Tyra" last="Brown"]. Brown averaged 13 points and 9.5 rebounds per game this season for Fort Myers HS and is expected to be an impact shot blocker and rebounder on the Under Armour circuit. Her unique combination of length, height, and athleticism surely will catch the attention of college coaches. [player_tooltip player_id="166167" first="Arianna" last="Mosley"] (Tampa Thunder to FGB) Mosley is part of the new look FGB 17U UAA squad, making the move from the Tampa Thunder for her Senior season. Mosley is an elite athlete, who makes things look easy with her explosive first step and long, smooth strides, attacking the rim in the open court, making opponents look like they are in slow motion when she has the ball in her hands. [player_tooltip player_id="219943" first="Renita" last="Harris"] (Compound Basketball to FGB) Harris makes the move from Compound Basketball to FGB Elite Thompson 17U squad for her Senior season. Harris is a big, strong, athletic wing who stands 5’10 and has a college ready body. She does a good job attacking off the dribble and taking contact along the way. She has major upside and potential and is a player to watch this summer! [player_tooltip player_id="91652" first="Kiara" last="Harris"], [player_tooltip player_id="166163" first="Madelyn" last="Leslie"], and [player_tooltip player_id="243934" first="Milan" last="Santos"] form a new look Hoop Dreams Elite 17U squad. All three at 2023 prospects that have D2/D1 talent. Leslie makes the move from the Tampa Thunder while Santos makes the move from Central Florida Elite. The three form a talented trio on the perimeter, each offering a slightly different skillset. They will compete on the 3SSB circuit and be relied on heavily to put the ball in the hole! [player_tooltip player_id="221840" first="Dezmariah" last="Soto"] (CFE/Hoop Dreams Elite to Team Knight) Soto makes the move over to Team Knight and will also compete on the 16U 3SSB circuit. The squad is made up of a combination of the top players from Faith Christian, Blanche Ely, Miami Christian, and Palmer Trinity. Soto is a talented playmaker who plays a lot bigger than 5’2. She is crafty with the ball in her hands, consistently wants to push the tempo and attack in the open court, and plays fearless when going to the rim! Michael Wholey is the lead scout for Florida Prep Girls Hoop Florida and a former division one Assistant Coach at American University, University of Memphis, and Georgia Tech. Wholey and the rest of the Prep Girls Hoop staff, seek to cover the entire state of player, keeping subscribers up to date with player evaluations, recruiting info, and statewide news. Our audience often supplies us with some of our best information. If you have any information on players, teams, or statewide news in the state of Florida, emailing Michael Wholey at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com or DM him through Twitter or Instagram @WholeyPrepHoops.
