That means there are plenty of new players to talk about and existing players who have continued their dominance on the court. Having already gone over the top five players in the 2024 class, here are the top five bigs in our updated prospect rankings.
2. Tayla Thomas Tayla Thomas 6'4" | SF IMG Academy | 2024 State FL – 6-4 SF, Montclair Immaculate
At 6-4, Thomas is one of the tallest high school players in New Jersey and as a result, she’s become a dominant big for Montclair Immaculate. This is a player you can reliably count on for a double-double night after night and she can provide several blocks a game on top of that. Her length and height allow her to get to shots not many others can get to and she’s able to get to rebounds much quicker than others. Overall, this is a player you should keep your eyes on this summer to see where she’ll be come the 2022-23 season.
No. 4: Taylor Derkack Taylor Derkack 6'0" | SF Colonia | 2024 State NJ – 6-0 SF, Colonia
We’ve talked about Derkack a great deal this season as a player who can not just dominate in the paint, but has a great shooting touch to pair with that inside game. Derkack is the perfect blend of the two, making her a multi-dimensional forward who already has a great feel of the game. She knows her game well and doesn’t try to stay too far away from it, which allows her to fit into systems easier. Derkack has very much improved her defense and that will be the further key to her overall success without a doubt.
No. 9: Janasia Wilson Janasia Wilson SF Irvington | 2024 State NJ – SF, Irvington
There is quite a lot to love when watching Wilson ball out on the court. Her handles are stellar for a forward, which allows her to get dribble penetration into the lane to finish strong at the basket or pull up from close-range for an easy deuce. We’ve been impressed by her shot-blocking ability, which stood out in a big was as a sophomore. Additionally, she often played the role of a guard for Irvington, causing a multitude of turnovers from steals. It’s impressive to see that ability to adapt to the game and play a much more versatile style of basketball.
No. 10: Faith Fedd-Robinson Faith Fedd-Robinson 5'11" | SF Newark Central | 2024 State NJ – 5-11 SF, Newark Central
We’ve been hearing the praises about Fedd-Robinson this entire season and for good reason because when it comes to shot-blockers, she just might be the best in the state. Looking off the stat sheet, Fedd-Robinson averaged 6.1 blocks a game and had four games with 10 blocks or more. Those are video game-like numbers, which shows just how agile and bouncy she is as a defender. When we say bouncy, we’re talking about her vertical as she’s able to attack shots and easily swat them away at their apex. A player who can average six blocks and steals each a game is a player who should have all of college basketball knocking at their doorstep.
No. 11: Abby Misier Abby Misier 6'4" | C Highstown | 2024 State NJ – 6-3 C, Hightstown
Misier averaged a double-double for the second consecutive season, but instead of putting those numbers up over just eight games, she did it over a 29-game season. She put up 13/13 numbers over the course of the year while blocking 3.6 shots a game for Hightstown. She got much more comfortable at the center position this season and as a result, found much more open lanes on offense to score or get to the foul line. Count on her posting double-double averages once again as a junior.
