There was a high level of competitiveness as the rosters were comprised of 8-9 players each and were littered with Division 1 prospects. Of the 35 players in attendance there were 30 committed to play at a D1, one committed to a D2, one going the JUCO route, and three players undecided. Below I take a look at Team Empowerment and how each player played in the event.
Christeen Iwuala – 6’3 F – Waco HS (TX) – UCLA
Iwuala was very good today as she was able to show good footwork in the post and she also showed the ability to stretch it out. Really dynamic player who did a lot of things really well on the floor without the ball. Solid defender with good anticipation skills.
Taylor Henderson – 6’0 G – Winston Salem HS (NC) – UNC-Wilmington
Is a very heady guard who knows how to play the game of basketball really well. Very good guard in the open floor who breaks down her defender well off the bounce and can distribute the ball to others well. I thought that she was able to show a lot today with her game.
Ashton Judd – 5’11 SF – West Plains HS (MO) – Missouri
Judd is a very heady wing who can play multiple spots on the floor. She is good in the open court as she keeps her head up with the ball in her hands. Smooth release from deep as she can knock down outside shots at a high level. Willing passer of the basketball who makes players around her better.
Aaliyah Roberson – 6’2 F – Clark HS (TX)
Roberson is a really versatile forward who can play both forward spot with ease and is a very dynamic driver off of the wing. She has a very quick first step that allows her to get to the rim quickly but she also can stop on a dime and pull-up. Was really impressed with her ability to score the ball today.
Bailey Maupin – 5’11 G – Gruver HS (TX) – Texas Tech
Maupin stood out to me very quickly today as she is a very smart player who knows how to create space to score the ball. She was really smooth in the open floor with the ball in her hands and creates really well for herself. Has a really nice change of pace that gets defenders off-balance so she can get to her shot.
Aislin Malcolm – 5’10 G – Carnegie HS (PA) – Pittsburgh
Malcolm is a very good shooter who has a smooth release and does not need much room to get her shot off. She has a very good release that is quick and she can hit it from any spot on the floor. I was really impressed with how she moved without the ball to create room for herself.
Jamia Carter – 5’7 PG – Shadow Ridge HS (NV)
Carter is a guard that proved today that she can score from anywhere on the floor. She is a very quick guard who has the ability to fill it up on the floor. She showed a really nice burst with the ball in her hands and was able to get to the rim with ease. Really nice control of her pacing today.
Ereauna Hardaway – 5’6 PG – Jonesboro HS (AR) – North Texas
One of the first things that stuck out to me about Hardaway was her court vision with the ball in her hands. I thought she did a great job of attacking the basket today and then dishing off the ball to open teammates. Very high basketball IQ that she utilizes really well. She also can score the ball really well.
Kaylynn Asberry – 5’7 PG – Como Park HS (MN) – Saint Peters
Asberry gave great effort on both ends of the floor today. I thought that she was able to do a lot of really nice things on the defensive end. She’s a very solid defender who plays physical on that side of the floor. Solid guard for her size and does a really nice job of using her vision on the floor. (Featured photo)
