As always, there are plenty of quality South Florida prospects as you move down the list. Some of these players could see a big jump during our next revision later this year.
Let's look at some of those picks...
[player_tooltip player_id="422726" first="Alexia" last="Sanchez"] - Doral Academy (PGH: 115)
[player_tooltip player_id="422726" first="Alexia" last="Sanchez"] gave Doral Academy a ton of production this season. The 5-foot-5 guard averaged 8.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game. Furthermore, Sanchez scored in double-figures in 11 contests. She is a very good rebounder out of the backcourt and plays tough defense. Against Miami Palmetto, Sanchez had 18 points, seven assists and seven rebounds while shooting 44 percent from the field. I would like to see more of those type of games next season. Specifically, Sanchez should work on her overall shooting and cutting down on her miscues.
Ana Sofia Sanchez - Lourdes Academy (PGH: 118)
Ana Sofia Sanchez had some big games for Lourdes Academy this past season. The 5-foot-4 combo guard scored in double-figures in five contests, including a 20-point effort against Dr. Krop. She also scored 19 points against 15-7 North Miami. Overall, Sofia Sanchez shot pretty well at a high volume. Three of her five double-figure outings resulted in a 42 percent field goal percentage or better. Putting more of those together in the future should see her stock rise.
[player_tooltip player_id="247161" first="Cienna" last="Thigpen"] - Palm Beach Lakes (PGH: 148)
[player_tooltip player_id="247161" first="Cienna" last="Thigpen"] improved from her sophomore to junior season. The 5-foot-2 point guard averaged just over 6 points per game with three double-figure outings. Thigpen scored 18 points against Boca Raton and 11 points against 16-2 Seminole Ridge. She should be a team leader next season with the Rams graduating multiple seniors.
[player_tooltip player_id="331718" first="Kori" last="Wimberly"] - Cardinal Newman (PGH: 191)
I think this is a very good pick at this spot. Wimberly is a 5-foot-8 forward that averaged 8.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game this past season. Overall, she scored in double-figures in 11 games. Wimberly scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards against North Miami. She also added 11 points and collected eight boards while dishing out four assists against 13-8 Palm Beach Lakes. On defense, Wimberly had two or more steals in 13 contests.
[player_tooltip player_id="247128" first="Celena" last="Cooley"] - Santaluces (PGH: 217)
[player_tooltip player_id="247128" first="Celena" last="Cooley"] was a versatile playmaker for Santaluces. The 5-foot-4 guard averaged 6.2 points, 5.8 assists, 3.6 rebounds and three steals per game while shooting 41 percent from the field. Cooley had four double-figure games and shot 45 percent or better from the field in each of them. She also dished out ten or more assists in four contests. On defense, Cooley recorded 83 steals. Santaluces won 18 games with her help on the floor. I think Cooley could see a significant jump during her senior season.
