Well it depends on who you ask, I’m not a novice, a beginner, so it means multiple things that fit my narrative at the time yet it also means players who things that “hold things together” in a game and that falls into multiple things I can list yet I’m listing multiple players and their “why” they’re on here
Brooke Bingheim-5’4 PG (Wagner HS) SA Unite 2023
Bingheim has been around for a minute as far as under my radar and although I lost track of her right after the last big storm in Houston, I was glad to catch her in action. Her dad was surprised as I mentioned everything in chronological order from 2 or 3 years ago but let me drop the #thereisnome one more time. Watching Brooke run her team to precision was nice, her BB-IQ was always there and she plays within herself yet being vocal on the court, directing traffic, and making the right passes to her teammates were all solid
Madison Olguin-5’6 SG (Antonian HS) SA Infinity Black [2023]
Olguin is with a new team yet that mindset has remained and when you find players willing to do the little things that may not appear on a score/state sheet, and those things turn out to be big, well in her case, huge because she broke up several plays, she helped trap which led to turnovers but she also dove on the floor as well as in the stands, I almost caught the picture but I didn’t want to take the hit because she’s strong, she shows that when she rebounds and scores off the dribble yet the pull-up looked good also
Mercedes Perez Mercedes Perez 5'6" | CG Taft (San Antonio) | 2023 TX -5’7 CG (Taft HS) SA Lady Hoops Black [2023]
Perez has hurt and fixed my neck with her no-looks so many times I can’t count so I look at her fish-eyed when she has the ball, just to be safe, yet that didn’t work but what did work is her seeing the floor and making huge passes during clutch situations, she thinks the game very well and her playing the passing lane is always a treat because she can pull-up and drop the mid to long-range after the steal, take the ball all the way or, throw that no-look on the money
Chloe Donnell Chloe Donnell 5'7" | PG Boerne | 2025 State TX -5’11 (Geneva HS) SAHE Gold 2025
Donnell simply amazed me last year with not only the red hair but she was on FIYA from everywhere so this time around, yeah she showed me I didn’t see a mirage but she is a multiple threat because of her court vision and when you can mix it up and keep the defense guessing, you’re ahead of the game and based on her being a freshman, huge upside
Aly Obregon-5’7 SG (Brandeis HS) Player First [2024]
Obregon doesn’t get fancy, she doesn’t have to because she just gets the job done and when they needed a bucket, she found ways to score but her deceptive first step is nice, it enables her to score off the dribble and she played solid defense, in the set as well as “on the ball”
Jordin Johns-5’4 CG (Floresville HS) SA Lady Hoops Carolina Blue [2025]
Johns does what I love to see, players playing the passing lane because it is definitely a lost art, along with following shots, taking away the baseline, and boxing out, wait, she did all of that as well, let me drop that hashtag #THROWBACK but her energy on both ends trickles down to her teammates and alert me add she “scores off the dribble” as well
Loghan Hamilton-5’7 CG (MS) SAHE 2026 [2027]
Hamilton ain’t no Burger yet I am a Perry Mason at calling #D1Locks early and this young lady was tagged just that in the 3rd grade by yours truly joining a select few elementary school players that I said who do just that and guess what, they “Just Did It” on various platforms so I hadn’t seen her in 3 years. I kept staring yet her number wasn’t in the book correctly yet a parent next to me told me she needed a different jersey, I looked at the name and I just went crazy because this young lady was playing with her shin hurting but the things that she did, playing up, solidified what I said about her in the 3rd grade. She is a LEGITIMATE nationally ranked player, well she will be because her poise and skillset are still ahead of her years
