Among the teams included there was the NJ Shoreshots, one of the best AAU programs in the state and a premier girls basketball AAU program along the Jersey Shore. Here’s a quick look at some of the girls on the 16U Select team, most definitely a loaded roster.
Yana Shupak – 5-5 G, Toms River East (2024)
Shupak is a slightly undersized guard, but she makes up for it with great shooting and fantastic defense. She is a three and D type player, but she is excellent at both and plays it to a T on the court. Starting off with her shooting, she’s essentially come out of nowhere from last season, barely playing as a freshman. However, in the short time she’s had on the floor, she’s gotten a great grasp of the game and is aggressive on both sides of the ball. It’s worked wonders toward her advantage.
Sophie Tonino Sophie Tonino 5'6" | SG Freehold Township | 2025 State NJ – 5-6 G, Freehold Township (2025)
Tonino is playing up an age group and for good reason as she’s currently the No. 37 prospect in our 2025 rankings. She, like Shupak, is an excellent shooter and commands the floor well with the ball in her hands. She’s been great at not rushing the game, letting it come to her, and her offensive game is an indication of how successful that’s gone. Tonino works to get contact in the lane and gets to the foul line quite often. Her work ethic is fantastic and her work rate on the floor exceeds her peers tremendously.
Adriana Bristow – 5-8 G, Wildwood Catholic (2025)
Bristow is an interesting player to watch as she didn’t feature much for Wildwood Catholic as a freshman. However, she looks like a future facilitator and offensive threat inside the perimeter. She moves well with the ball and has great off-ball movement as well. She’s another player who doesn’t rush on the floor and looks for her opportunities to capitalize and score when she can. Bristow right now is a great complimentary piece with great potential to be a featured talent for Wildwood Catholic. Playing for such a good program, her ceiling is quite high.
Gwen Bruen – 5-5 PG, St. John Vianney (2024)
Bruen has one of the quickest releases of anyone on the team, which for her has resulted in a massive amount of success from beyond the arc. She additionally is a great passer, which is a big bonus for her as a point guard. Being able to pick out that open opponent for an open look or a flush in the lane is a great foundation to build off of. While she handles the ball well from the point, you’ll see her often play off-ball and move over to the wing, which looks to be her best perimeter shooting spot. We’ll be looking to see her continue to expand her range as the summer continues.
