Continue ReadingThe PGH Music City Showdown kicked off at the TOA Sports Performance complex on Saturday morning. This tournament is part of the Triumph Region which encompasses the Southeast as one of four regions in the PGH Circuit. Saturday featured a ton of talent in the 17U and 16U divisions. Some notable teams I saw were: Team Huncho Nxt-Gen 2023, BounceNation FBC 2023 Jay, STARS Basketball Club 2023 McLeod, and Wisconsin Blaze 2023 Inferno. Here were some of the top players I saw:
17U
Erin Rodgers | Team Huncho Nxt-Gen | 6’2 | 2024
Erin shoots the ball outside really well for her size. She’s part of a Team Huncho team that has a ton of size and length, and she’s on of their best. She was one of the most versalite players I saw who scores through contact and elevates on her mid-range game, too. I liked her ability to rebound and attack the glass, and she still has room to grow and improve into an elite player in her upperclassmen years.
Emaya Lewis | Team Huncho Nxt-Gen | 6’4 | 2024
Emaya has incredible length at the 2024 level. She has really soft touch around the rim and she can hit that mid-range 15 footer with ease. Her height and wingspan allow her to out-rebound anyone and get a shot off over anyone as well. She will be a household name in the nation shortly.
Trinity Mocadlo Trinity Mocadlo 5'8" | PG Hortonville | 2023 State WI | Wisconsin Blaze | 5’9 | 2023
Trinity was the best player on the floor from start to finish in their close loss to start the day off. Her team looked for her to bring to ball up the floor, and she knew when to push it in transition or slow it down to get the half-court offense set up. She can hit it from deep, pull up from mid-range, and attack the hoop with the ability to finish with both hands.
Karissa Smith Karissa Smith 5'9" | SG Appleton North | 2023 State WI | Wisconsin Blaze | 5’9 | 2023
This WI Blaze team is full of shooters, and Karissa is one of their best from deep. She does a great job of finding the soft spot in the defense and exploiting it by spotting up or making a cut to get open. Her energy was really fun to watch on both end of the floor. The Wisconsin Blaze Inferno team are a fun bunch to watch!
Anna Claire Milam Anna Claire Milam 5'9" | SG Dickson Co. | 2023 State TN | STARS Basketball Club | 5’8 | 2023
Anna did a good job of controlling the pace as a PG with good vision and knowing when to push it up the floor. She can hit it from deep and get to the basket, too. The sharpshooter can score it in bunches and you can tell she knows the game well with a high basketball IQ.
Imari Berry | TN Sol | 5’10 | 2024
You can tell Imari is a hooper just when she walks in the gym. She has that swagger that exudes confidence. Her length, size, and versatile skill set make her a tough match-up for any position 1-5. Her game is so smooth and almost looks like she is on cruise control the whole time with length that allows her to cause a lot of deflections and always stay around the basketball.
Ayana Boyd | Bounce Nation FBC | 5’8 | 2023
Ayana is a smooth lefty who made big plays time and time again. She kicked the ball ahead, drove it to the rim, and finished on the offensive side. On defense, she had active hands and blocked a bunch of shots.
Ellen Meyer | Dayton Metro | 6’1 | 2023
Ellen has really good size and length in the interior. She finished strong inside with both hands through contact, and rebounded well against an undersized team in their morning win. This Dayton Metro team is sneaky good with some size and talented guards as well.
16U
Khania Jones | Team Firstep | 5’10 | 2025
Khania was the most athletic player on the floor in her game. She’s got a tremendous frame with good elevation that allows her to dominate the glass and rise up for a jumper. I really liked her energy on defense and her quick hands for some easy steals. It will be interesting to see how she develops in the rest of her career.
Lauren Hassell | TN Sol | 6’3 | 2027
Lauren is young, but she was really impressive playing up 3 grade levels. Her footwork is nice, she rebounds it well, and she can finish with both hands around the rim. She is already a force in the paint that will only get better. You can’t teach 6’3 just like the other 2027 below.
Marley Spiers | TN Sol | 6’3 | 2027
Marley is another young 2027 with a ton of size, length, and skill at 6’3. She plays on the same HS team as Lauren, and they are going to best the best frontcourt duo for many years to come. College coaches around the counrty will know both of these names!
The Triumph Region of the PGH Circuit will head to Atlanta for the Peach Games next weekend.
