Class of 2022 Rankings: Newcomers Part Two By Michael Wholey 5/3/22 1:00 PM EST We released an updated rankings for the class of 2022 earlier in the week. After taking a look at the top 10 and the stock risers, we now take a look at the class of 2022 Newcomers! With over 300 players ranked in the class of 2022, here are some of the top newcomers. You can take a look at the Class of 2022 Rankings HERE: [player_tooltip player_id="417850" first="Ayanna" last="Applefield"] (Hudson HS) – 5’4 Guard Overall Rank: 167 Applefield had a big senior season, upping her scoring by a full 6 points per game, going from 12.8 as a Junior to 18.8 as a Senior. Her squad needed every single one of her points, as in many situations she accounted for 50-75% of her teams’ points. Her season high was 32 points vs Anclote, where she accounted for 75% of her teams’ points in a 43-71 loss. She enters the rankings at # 167. [player_tooltip player_id="417851" first="TaNiyah" last="Washington"] (Blountstown High School) – 5’5 Guard Overall Rank: 169 Washington was very, very good this season averaging 18.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for Blountstown High School. Washington twice dropped 37 points versus Liberty County, once in January and once in February. Washington was her teams go to scorer and a high-volume shooter all season, averaging 17+ shots per game. Washington was at her best attacking in transition and getting into the paint. She got the free throw line 6+ times per game and shot 42% from 3. [player_tooltip player_id="417852" first="Faith" last="Mcgowan"] (Holmes County) – 5’7 Guard Overall Rank: 187 Mcgowan is a versatile perimeter player, who can play the 1, 2, or 3. She was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder averaging 17.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. She reached double digits in 20 of Holmes County 23 games. Her offensive play was extremely consistent recording 9 double doubles. Her play peaked at the right time, playoff time as she recorded double doubles in 5 of her teams last 7 games. Her top two individual performances were a 25 point / 20 rebound game vs Central in November leading her team to a 54-50 win and a 20 point / 17 rebound game in a close loss to Port St Joe in January. [player_tooltip player_id="417859" first="Molly" last="Richards"] (Naples HS) – 5’8 Guard Overall Rank: 188 Richards was a four-year player for Naples High School [player_tooltip player_id="417859" first="Molly" last="Richards"] at Naples High. This is her Senior year, and she has played varsity all 4 years. She is a 1,000-point scorer, reaching the 1K mark early in the 2021-22 season. She has averaged double digit points for three consecutive seasons. As a Senior she averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.9 steals per game. As a Junior she Averaged 16.4 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game. And as a Sophomore she averaged 13.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 3.8 steals per game. She is a true leader, a tough defensive player, and had an excellent high school career. She enters the rankings at # 188. [player_tooltip player_id="417861" first="Stephanie" last="Orozco"] (Coral Springs HS) – 5’7 Guard Overall Rank: 189 Orozco was one of the top players in Broward county this season for Coral Springs. She proved to be a skilled and versatile scorer who plays hard and aggressive on both ends of the floor. Throughout the season Orozco did an excellent job creating offense from defense by picking up opponents with full court pressure, stepping into passing lanes, and playing with a ton of energy. Check out her 2021-22 season mixtape. https://youtu.be/SUyqT7tQcMs [player_tooltip player_id="417853" first="Asharia" last="Mcpherson"] (Wade Christian) – 5’4 Point Guard Overall Rank: 191 Don’t let Mcpherson size fool you. She may be tiny, but she is fearless and plays a lot bigger than her 5’4 frame. Mcpherson put together one of the most well-rounded Senior seasons for Wade Christian, averaging 17.1 points, 4.2 assists, and 5.2 steals per game. She led Wade Christian to a 17-10 record, with a 3-1 record in district before falling to Downey Christian in the playoffs. [player_tooltip player_id="417854" first="Jasmine" last="Mayes"] (Booker T Washington) – 5’1 Guard Overall Rank: 194 Mayes BTW squad struggled this season, but it wasn’t due to her play. She averaged 16.9 points to go along with 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 steals per game, accounting to close to 50% of her teams’ points. Mayes did most of her damage off the dribble and in the paint and is a pretty good rebounder from the perimeter position. [player_tooltip player_id="417855" first="Payton" last="Scholl"] (Sarasota Christian) – 5’7 Guard Overall Rank: 205 Payton led Sarasota Christian in scoring at 16.8 points per game, dropping double digits in 14/15 games and 20+ points in 6/15. Scholl floor game was balanced as she spread out her points from 2, from 3, and at the free throw line. She can play both the PG and the SG position. She does a good job filling up the stat sheet while still encouraging ball movement and sharing the ball, finding her teammates in scoring positions. About Class of 2022 Rankings This is the fourth and final rankings for the class of 2022. We have taken a look at players performance and potential with both their High School and Travel teams. If there is a player that not included in the rankings or you feel is not ranked properly, please email us at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com and include Name, Height, Position, HS, Travel team, any stats available and any video available. Our goal is to cover the entire state, but we are well aware that we have not seen everyone in the state and those that we have seen, we have not seen all of them equally the same amount of time and games. About Our Rankings Prep Girls Hoops prospect rankings have been compiled by our staff with input from high school, club and college coaches from across the state. Players are ranked on their status as a college prospect. We aim to expand and update our prospects rankings 2-4 times per year to continue to maintain the most comprehensive, accurate prospect rankings in the country. Michael Wholey is Prep Girls Hoops Florida Senior Scout and oversees the Florida rankings along with other contributing members and writers for @PGHFlorida. You can email Michael Wholey at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com or DM him on Twitter or Instagram @WholeyPrepHoops.
