We released an updated rankings for the class of 2023 this week. We take a look up at the shakeup in the top 10.
You can take a look at the Class of 2023 Rankings HERE:
Emma Risch Emma Risch 6'2" | PG Palm Bay | 2023 State #23 Nation FL (Palm Bay HS / East Coast United) – 6’2 Point Guard – NOTRE DAME
Risch is headed to Notre Dame but she still has one more season of travel and prep ball. At 6’2, she is a highly skilled, high IQ, point guard with the height and frame to see over defenses and shoot over defenders. Risch holds onto the # 1 spot in the class of 2023 rankings update.
Chloe Kitts Chloe Kitts 6'2" | SF Faith Christian Academy | 2022 FL (DME Academy / Southeast All Stars) – 6’2 Wing
Kitts moves up to # 2 in the rankings after a superb season for DME Academy. She is a versatile 6’2 wing that can play multiple positions and is highly skilled. Her length is such a factor on both ends of the floor as she can score over the top of people in the paint, see over defenses and advance the ball up the court vs pressure both off the bounce and with the pass, and she is an impact player in the paint as a shot blocker and rebounder.
Taliah Scott Taliah Scott 5'8" | SG St. John's Country Day | 2023 State #31 Nation FL (St Johns Country Day / FGB) – 5’8 Guard – ARKANSAS
Scott is a big-time scorer who was one of the top scorers nationally, finishing # 11 in the maxpreps stats, averaging 31.5 points per game. At 5’8, she can playthe 1, 2, and 3. She has supreme athleticism and is at her best in an up-tempo game pushing the ball in transition and attacking the rim. She is verbally committed to the University of Arkansas.
Alancia Ramsey Alancia Ramsey 6'0" | PF St Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL (St. Thomas Aquinas / Essence) – 6’0 Forward
Ramsey jumps up to # 4 in the class of 2023 rankings based on her stellar play last travel season that carried over to the high school season. She is a super physical and aggressive interior player who plays much bigger than her 6’0 frame. She is always the most physical on the court and is not afraid to mix it up, using her hips, shoulders, elbows and strong lower base. She is a consistent double double machine and will be a major impact player on the 17U EYBL circuit for Essence.
Karina Gordon Karina Gordon 5'8" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL (St. Stomas Aquinas / Miami Suns) – 5’8 Guard
Gordon moves up to # 5 after taking home Broward County Player of the Year honors and helping lead St. Thomas Aquinas to a state championship and leading them in scoring at 13.8 points per game. Gordon is a skilled guard who is athletic and a two-way player that gives equal effort on offense and defense. As an offensive player, she is extremely well rounded, with solid handle, a nice 3 point stroke, good open court moves, and a good finisher in the paint.
Yakiya Milton Yakiya Milton 6'4" | PF Mandarin | 2024 FL (University Christian / East Coast United) – 6’4 Wing
Length is a major theme in the top 10 of the class of 2023 and Milton might be the longest of everyone. She is a 6’4 wing that is super long and super athletic. Her # 6 ranking is more based on projection than consistent production. She has the body, the length, the athleticism, and the tools to be a big-time player and shows it in spurts. She is one of the hottest recruits in Florida with many college coaches getting a chance to see her for the first time in April and expect her stock and exposure to continue to rise throughout the spring/summer travel season while on the road with East Coast United Family 2023.
Mjracle Sheppard Mjracle Sheppard 5'8" | CG Montverde Academy | 2023 State FL (Montverde Academy / Essence) – 5’8 Guard
Sheppard relocated to Florida to play for Montverde Academy from Washington and has been one of the building blocks in the rise of the Montverde Academy to national prominence. Sheppard is just straight out solid all around on both ends of the floor. Her stat line for this 2021-22 HS season was 7.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.4 steals per game, while shooting 47% from the field. She has a slight build, needing to get stronger and sometimes struggles vs physical play and needs to improve on her ability to knock down the open 3 but Sheppard has a ton of tools and does a great job playing within the system and leading her team to victories.
D’Yanis Jimenez D’Yanis Jimenez 5'9" | PG Charlotte | 2023 State FL (Charlotte HS / Miami Suns) – 5’9 Guard
Jimenez had a big-time high school for Charlotte HS averaging 15.4 points per game including six 20-point games and a 31-point performance vs Cape Coral in February. She is an athletic, skilled guard who has a ton of potential. Her consistency is again the X factor, as she is often very good vs lower-level competition but does not always rise to the occasion when the lights are bright in the big games, or the competition increases. She has the body, athleticism, and skill level to be a high level D1 college player at the next level and this will be a big spring/summer for her with Miami Suns on the 17U EYBL circuit.
Khyala Ngodu Khyala Ngodu 6'2" | PF Dillard | 2023 State FL (Dillard HS / Miami Suns) – 6’2 Forward
Ngodu is an inside out forward who can score over both shoulders and finish with both hands when playing with her back to the basket and can also step out and knock down the open 15-footer. She has battled injuries the last couple seasons but when healthy, she is a big-time post prospect that college coaches will drooling over at 100%. She makes the move to Miami Suns and the EYBL circuit and will be tested against some of the top players in the country and it will be interesting to see how she performs against the high level of competition.
Letycia Vasconcelos Letycia Vasconcelos 6'7" | C Montverde Academy | 2023 State FL (Montverde Academy / Essence) – 6’7 Center
Vasconcelos is a big of an unknown as she played sparingly for Montverde this year and makes the move from FBC United to Essence. But at 6’7, she is in high demand by college coaches that have a system where their center anchors the paint. It is always a catch 22 with players of Vasconcelos size, where often their skillset is behind that of the perimeter players and hard to predict yet they are recruited at a high level despite not having the stats or production to back it up. At the end of the day, 6’7 players with her size and mass are few and far in between and college coaches are trying to project what Vasconcelos will look like by her Junior season after two years of strength and conditioning training and a good post coach that specializes in player development.
