I say over and over that the game starts at the 1, some get it, some will, and like many other things I say, some never will yet that’s why I fall into the " I’m not a novice at this" category and there were some standout point/combo guards that captured and kept my attention, some have been mentioned in previous articles, use the search bar for the event
Shameir Quimby-5’6 (Canton HS) Texas Platinum 2023 Bates
Quimby is a gamer, nothing fancy, she gets the job done and her ability to run a team, control the tempo and see the floor sometimes overshadows her defense as well outside shooting or attacking the basket
Ti’ye Davis-5’4 (CE King HS) TNBA Houston 2023
Davis has SWB, speed with ball, and let me also add that she stays under control but her passes from 30 feet always please me because they’re on the mark and she also understands controlling the tempo and she also scores off the dribble
[player_tooltip player_id="261716" first="Cooper" last="Hilton"]-5’6 (Coweta HS) Oklahoma Swift 2023
Hilton has very good court vision and her on the money passes give teammates scoring opportunities yet she can create for herself as well as her teammates, dishes off the dribble
Karma Zepeda-5’5 (Porter HS) STP Elite 2023
Zepeda does a good job setting defenders up in the set as well as the open court and she plays within herself and gets the ball to the right person at the right time, yet she also scores both off the dribble and using the pull-up jumper
Madison Lumsden-5’8 (Argyle HS) True Texas Hoops 2023 National
Lumsden gave me a nice dribbling exhibition while being pressured on opening day, well a shooting exhibition as well but I got a kick at watching her release as well as her ability to get everyone involved and set teammates up for gimmes
[player_tooltip player_id="197956" first="Gentry" last="Baldwin"]-5’5 (Bixby HS) Team Griffin Elite 2023 Wernli
Baldwin is heady and she relishes the pressure because she steps up and those blazing passes in traffic are always nice, yes they’re on the money but her first step enables her to score or dish while she can drop the outside shot with ease
Antonia McGuire-5’3 (Kellyville HS) Graham’s Shooting Stars Academy 2023 [2024]
McGuire is a pass-first point guard that can handle the pressure as well as apply it and her defense was smothering but she sees the floor well, and even understands positioning to outrebound players taller than her
Aaliyah Scott-5’5 (Lewisville HS) Team Stay Ready 2023 [2024]
Scott is "poised under pressure" and has shown that all Circuit long. Her defense is solid yet she understands the game very well, controls the tempo, and is vocal on the court. Good court vision yet can nail the outside shot
[player_tooltip player_id="206960" first="Neenah" last="George"]-5’8 PG (Sasche HS) Lady Jets 3SSB 2024
George brings it and she can overpower other guards without trying, her passes are crisp and on the money yet she also understands how to push it when needed or slow it down but off the dribble, she’s hard to handle, finishes strongly after contact
