Continue ReadingAfter watching the action at this weekend’s USJN Gateway Challenge, Prep Hoops Missouri came across some more new names of players who performed during the two-day event. When you get an opportunity to see a lot of players during a weekend, you get to see a lot of good players who operate under the radar. He are some of those players who play the guard/wing position.
Brooklyn Williams (St. Louis Phenom-Kelly 16U): A 5’2″ 2024 point guard from Ursuline Academy who was a real spark plug at both ends of the floor. She has quick hands on defense and can provide good on-ball pressure. She used her speed to get into the lane and finish on the drive. She also makes good decision with the ball as she dropped several nice dimes on the move.
Abigail Peterson (Players First 17U): A 6’0″ versatile 6’0″ 2023 wing from Sullivan who can excel at multiple positions on the court. She is handle the playmaking duties with her passing and ball handling ability. She used her size to see over smaller defenders and she was capable of scoring in the lane or knocking down perimeter jumpers.
McKenna Sosna (Della Lamb Gold 16U): The 5’6″ 2024 point guard from Park Hill was very impressive in a game that I watched her on Saturday morning. She has a good feel for the game with a confident handle and the ability to knock down 3-pointers. She also got into the lane very effectively and scored on some off-balance shots in traffic.
Audrey Lotspeich (St. Louis Phenom-Ford 16U): A 5’10″ wing from Fort Zumwalt West who has good length and she was excellent on the drive. She handles the ball very well and got out and made a lot of excellent plays in the open court. She can also play solid defense with her wingspan on the perimeter.
Paige Sheppard (Midwest United 15U): A 5’2″ 2025 point guard from Cardinal Ritter who played a solid overall floor game. She’s a smaller guard, but she’s strong and very crafty with the dribble so she can get where she needs to go. She distributes the ball well and is capable of getting into the lane off dribble penetration.
Brooklyn Masten (SHOtime Basketball 16U): A 5’7″ 2024 guard from Parkview who plays with a tremendous motor. She operates well in traffic and will attack the basket whenever she can and doesn’t mind any contact. She is an excellent passing who can keep defenders off away from her dribble. She is also a good rebounder from the guard position.
